I dabble with making cabs, admittedly I don't cab all that often. It's very few and far between. However.. I decided for fun, i'd try making a cab out of some very small plumes of Carey. 10x14mm. Going to put this in a ring setting for my gf. See if its worth making more rings like this in the future.

Oh wow, that's a beautiful stone! I see so much crappy red rock being passed off as Carey plume these days but that there is the real deal. I love the Carey characteristic of plumes of flame rising up from white clouds of smoke as you captured perfectly.

I'm with Robin...I'd love to see that ring once it's finished. However, I hope your GF will understand the delay in the ring, because we're all waiting to see that Angel Wing get slabbed...so...it's all about priorities! LOL Kidding...kind of... LOL Truly, that cab is very well done, and it will make an amazing ring for her.

Ya know… I had never paid much attention, but I was just looking around online and you’re correct. There is quite a bit of stuff being passed off as Carey that’s not even close to being Carey. Sadly this happens quite a bit with other materials I’ve noticed.

I’ve seen your work, and I strive to have cabs in the future look as clean and symmetrical as yours. Honestly.. if you haven’t already, you should create a detailed thread on your process for creating such nice cabs.

Honestly.. if you haven’t already, you should create a detailed thread on your process for creating such nice cabs. That really means a lot Karl. Since I've only been cabbing a little over a year, I'm still very hard on myself...and still second guess a lot of what I'm doing... Funny you mention the thread. I was thinking about that very thing this morning at 4am when I had already started cabbing today. LOL Truly, it would be a thread on how "I" do it...as it might not be the "right" way...but it seems to be working at the moment! *PS...I do remember you had kind of asked about the new cabbing machine - I'm going to do an actual review on it, but I'm still figuring out (read that as contemplating) a few of the goods and the "bads". I'll tag you when the time comes.
