First ran across this material about a year ago or so. Was trying to find a turquoise mine that I had found before, but could not recall exactly where to turn. Long story short I turned at the wrong place. As I got close to the mountain I ran across this material that a geologist informed me was a quartz cataclasite:
I found the stone in green, purple and a mix of both. Personally, I like the more purple cataclasite better as it has a much better contrast. Here are pics of the rough as well as some slabs I have cut.

vegasjames this stuff is way cool. I have never heard of cataclasite, so thank you for teaching me something new today!
I like all the the color combos, but I agree the purple has more contrast and shows better. I'd love to see how it cabs.

I will post some pics when I decide what to do with it. Not sure yet if I want to cab these are use them for knife scales.

That would make some beautiful knife scales!

That would make some beautiful knife scales! I think I will do some knife scales with it. Have some opalized wood slabbed to make the scales for my next knife, but if that does not work I was going to try the cataclasite anyway.

I really love "busy" material...and this definitely fits that bill! I can totally see this as knife scales!
