First came across this material several years ago exploring a new area during one of my trips. Really love the colors and patterns.

That is some really nice looking material and looks like it may have some interesting patterns. Did you prybar it out and does it have fractures and/or uneven hardness?

That is some really nice looking material and looks like it may have some interesting patterns. Did you prybar it out and does it have fractures and/or uneven hardness? Actually got all this from the tailings pile. Did not see any of the material anywhere in the mine itself.
When I first found the mine I originally did not see anything of interest and though it was a bust. As I was walking back to the truck I saw a small piece of the jasper on top of the pile. So i started looking around and found a small amount of the jasper on one side of the tailings. My friend came up from California an I took him there to get some and while up there I found a second location with the jasper laying on the ground. Still a fairly limited amount of the stuff there.
It has some fractures, but not heavily fractured. Probably fractured from being blasted out. Still able to make slabs as you can see in the one pic.
I don't recall any uneven hardness, but have not worked with the material in a while either. I have mainly been focusing on cabbing common opal lately, and a variety of other stones I have been sending out for trades for wire wrapping. Generally, I do not cab a lot of jasper.

I too was wondering about the uneven hardness...but then I got to the picture of the cabs! Boy did this turn out some beautiful cabs! I love the almost "muted" color tones this produced! Gorgeous!
