Can anyone confirm or deny the identity of the cab in this pendant? It belongs to my wife, from her previous marriage. She says that her ex told her it was a tiger eye, but I'm not so sure. For one thing, there is absolutely no shimmer anywhere; why would someone create a tiger eye pendant *without* the shimmer?

That looks like a matte finish. Is it?

That looks like a matte finish. Is it? It's definitely not real shiny. Not a truly glossless matte, though.

I don't know what it is, but it isn't tiger eye- at least not a good one.

Hmmmm... I've not heard of that stone. But, after looking it up, it could be a variety of tiger iron. . Many of the images I've found have red and/or orange (jasper?) and clear black bands of hematite veined through it. But, some are colored just like my wife's pendant.

You would need to see more red in tiger iron.

I don't think it's Tiger Iron, either. It would need to have at least some Tiger Eye in some of the layers and the colors aren't right. It could be some type of sedimentary rock since it doesn't have a high polish on it.

It's from her ex...which automatically makes it a Leaverite! (Totally kidding! LOL - I have no clue what it is. )

I had some material called brown zebra jasper that resembled it. The bands tended to be a bit wider apart between the brown and the white but it's all I got at the moment.

It could also be a variety of cave onyx, Ballarat cave onyx looks kind of like that.

Because of the matte finish the only thing I have seen similar is Oil Shale. It has the bedding for it. If you cabbed it did it smell like petroleum?
