I got this in a bundle of rough off of eBay. The rind of the rock was dark. When I slabbed it it had dendrites in the center. The slabs fall apart randomly but when it holds together it polished well. My cab looks like a Montana Moss agate but the slabs have more white. The white is softer. ok enough talking. Here are some pics. the cab here is an adjoining slabette of this material. Note the dark rind. I really appreciate any help, on ID, and cabbing pointers.

The center looks like the Turkish Dendritic Opal that was around a few years ago.
I don't remember what the rind looked like on that stuff. I'll see if I can dig up a piece.

I'd guess dendritic agate or dendritic opal, or maybe a combo of the two -- it's hard to tell from the pictures. Your cab looks great! Very beauteous. Keep cutting it like you did that one.

I don’t see Montana. How about dendritic amethyst sage?

Looks like Turkish Dendritic Opal to me, too.

The Turkish matrix was a lighter brown and the dendrites typically smaller in what we have here.
Aussie dendritic opal can also have yellows (and many other colors) in it - but the varying hardnesses don't fit with any dendritic opal we've had.
I hope someone pins it down for us all. The few pieces of Aussie and Turkish we have just aren't an exact match. The Aussie was a closer match.

Thanks for the input. I can see if I can message the seller. The white is very prone to flaking and chipping on the hard wheels.

If it’s hard like agate, Valley Springs looks like an option

I have zero input on the ID. It's gorgeous material whatever it is! This really is a spectacular cab Evan! The girdle, dome, and polish are all top shelf! Definitely one to be proud of!

If the white is chalky? I am running with sage…. Second place is Dendritic Opal That is a nice piece of nice stuff!! Bueno ! The white… it’s brittle. It cuts easier than the clear, but not chalky so much as chippy and flaky. The clear isn’t hard like Montana, but definitely equal to or harder than quartz. Thanks for all the help, RTH!

I believe it is dendritic opalite!! Thanks again all. Looks like hardness is listed as 7, I was thinking opal was softer.

I love the cab. I'm almost certain that is is not a Montana agate, although it looks like it polished just as well as a Montana. Nice work.
