Hi folks, 14 years ago I dragged many boxes of silicates from Mich to MT where someone gave me a Rockette 800 that had been sitting bored and forgotten in an outbuilding. I dragged it to PA without ever turning it on, and then let it sit bored and forgotten in my own outbuilding, in PA. But my kid is passionate about hunting up glass from rivers and old midden piles and wants to try it out, so we're starting from scratch and trying to learn about it. For starters, we couldn't find a user manual, but the patent application is a good substitute. If the link breaks look me up, I downloaded the pdf but can't seem to find a way to upload it to the forum. patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/4e/42/34/e55c68aaed21be/US3183630.pdf
It seems we only have three of the four springs. If the other does not turn up, instead of replacing just one I'll do all four to keep them even. FWIW, in case you end up needing springs too, my calipers claims these measurements
5/64 wire diameter 2.5 coiled length (not counting hooks at ends) 9/16 o.d. at both ends but +1/64 for total of 37/64 all along the middle 30 loops in the coil
UPDATE... to extend my springs 1" requires 22.5 pounds

From looking at the patent application, there isn't much more to know, lubrication being pretty much common sense. I enjoy reading those patent papers, thanks for putting it up. One question, 5/65 wire diameter?

One question, 5/65 wire diameter? Some caliper have some quite odd fractions as a display option. According to my chart this fraction would match closest to 12 AWG.

sorry folks, typo. 5/64ths. As a first machine, I'm glad to have read the concept for how to adjust the eccentrics for the desired action; sure mechanically inclined experimenters can figure such things out I suppose but its nice to have a general road map

Those patent applications do give a good "road map" on how the item works, I think often better and more complete than a user manual.
