I’ve been picking up a few slabs while getting ready for a new run of cabs. I like to do around 20 cabs at a time. I also got some new templates from Cabtopia so I can try some different shapes. I’ve still got some on their way but here is what I have so far. The Bruneau I already had.

The pink and white piece on the right looks like it came from a Hubble picture.

Ooooooo..... ocean jasper..... rockjunquie. The two dark green OJs are solid. The yellow and white /green, not so much.

rockjunquie stole my thoughts! Those are beauties Starguy. It will be interesting to see what you do with them.

perkins17. I’ll fire up the trim saw tomorrow. It will be awhile before they are cabs. If you ever plan go through the Silver Valley just east of you, you should contact me. I could help with your cabbing withdrawal. All of my cabbing and tumbling machines are indoors. I would like to try the 8V-1 with two people working on it.

Brent, those are going to make some gorgeous cabs!! I keep going back up and trying to decide which slab is my favorite...but I like every one of them equally! Nice choice on these materials.

jasoninsdThose two green OJs weren’t cheap. Your Kambaba slab made me want to try some of that stuff. I’ve got a small Noreena jasper slab coming that I’m pretty excited about.

I haven't tried any of my Noreena on the new cabbing machine. I need to get it into the queue. I want to see what kind of a polish I can get on it...to see if it's better than what I could get on the slant cabber. The Kambaba polished better, so I'm hoping the Noreena will as well. I can't wait to see what you get out of that Kambaba.

Whenever I get materials like that, I put them first on my list. And I was wondering why I had so much boring stuff at the bottom of the barrel. I'm definitely going through the cabbing withdrawals. I hope to go garnet hunting up there some time this year. Indoors... What's that like? 😆 Thank you for the offer. I appreciate it.

jasoninsd . I wish I had your eye for outlining cabs. Thanks...I'm starting to feel like I'm getting better at it. I was SO apprehensive about wasting material back in the beginning...but now I try to prioritize the cabs I stencil and go for the best one in the slab first...and then second...then third, etc. You're going to have SO much fun picking out the cabs in these slabs! I've been thinking about the old "Cab that Slab" contests. They kind of went to the wayside once I joined. I hope that wasn't a coincidence! LOL - I was thinking I need to check them out and maybe we need to think about a "revival" of those. They seemed like they would have been fun.

I’m the offender on that one Jason. I was going through some real life stuff and it sort of ground to a halt. It was also getting hard to find inspiring slabs.

I don't know if I have any slabs big enough or nice enough for that sort of contest, but I would be happy to contribute a slab or two if I find some that might be appropriate. I have to go back and see exactly how those contests worked, as far a who picked the winner, who got a prize (if any), and what happens to the slab.
