Hello everyone! I just wanted to announce the launch of a long-awaited project my group and I have been working on since the summer, Michigan Rockhounds!
Here, rockhounders can access helpful tools and resources like our map of rocky Michigan beaches, lake condition guides (coming next week!), legal pages to help beachgoers and rockhounds know their rights as tourists, collectors, and residents of Michigan!
The website will also be serving as our own hub for written articles, videos, and other content specifically catered to hobbyists and professionals alike!
Our first piece of content we will be launching with will be Craig McClarren's introduction to Fluorescent Sodalite (You may know them as Yooperlites, Glowdalites, or Emberlites!)
You can read that here: www.michiganrockhounds.com/articles/glowdalites
Craig McClarren is a volcanologist living here in Michigan. He administrates for our group and has taken up an interest in writing for Michigan Rockhound's webpage to help further our audience's knowledge and interest in Michigan's vast geological history.
Beyond our release features for Michigan Rockhounds, we will also be focusing on creating even more tools and guides for curious rockhounders like yourself down the line!
Tools like a fully custom map, identification page, list of Michigan rock clubs, gear guides, trip guides, polishing guides, merch store, and even collaborative projects are all in the works for our website.
Alongside this, we're announcing our very own Instagram account! www.instagram.com/michiganrockhounds/
Here, we will be posting rock spotlights, member finds, and member submissions to help rockhounders share their treasures with the world! All you have to do is message the Instagram account with a photo, when your find was taken, and a post will be made with all proper account credit to help interested rockhounders spotlight their very own finds!
We're taking both feedback and feature recommendations so do take a look and let us know what you think! This is a massive step for us as we move into a fully functional resource for rockhounders all over Michigan. So give us a visit some time! www.michiganrockhounds.com
