I need a new gasket for my LS-18. I contacted Lortone via website and they said they had some for sale. I replied back and told them I’d take a couple. No response. Called and left a couple VM’s and no return call nor email.
I’ve tried liquid gasket but it’s still leaking at the bottom. I know it’s prob user error, but since they have gaskets for this [and I can’t get them to sell me one] does anyone have any leads to how I can obtain a gasket? I see some companies sell gaskets by the sheet/piece and I’m assuming you cut out the piece you need from it, but I feel kind of at a loss because I’m not naturally mechanically inclined.
Just a side note: I don’t want to Jerry-rig it and use a cereal box or any kind of bandaid for it.

Auto parts places will have gasket material, or you can use the rth link and go with Amazon. www.amazon.com/HARVEYS-Gasket-Kit-6x6-EA/dp/B0002YS98E/ref=sr_1_5?crid=1784TI5WETIMN&keywords=gasket+material&qid=1641747996&s=hi&sprefix=gasket+%2Ctools%2C184&sr=1-5For a gearbox gasket you should be able to trace around the gearbox and cut it out. If the box is loose holding it in place and pressing fairly hard against the edges and bolt holes will create lines as well. When installing using some automotive silicone gasket sealer on both sides is a good idea. Here is a tutorial, a better search will get you more ideas. Personally I don't do the hammer thing, but I also usually use rubber or cork. For a simple box like that I would probably use the rtv silicone on the housing surface, lightly clamp it down to a oversize piece of gasket material on a flat surface, let it cure to glue the gasket on, then use the edges of the housing and holes to guide a new exacto knife blade cutting the gasket. When installing you will want to seal the mounting bolt holes if they pass through to the inside of the saw, especially the bottom ones.

Yep, if you have the materials at hand - or a nearby hardware store - it's often quicker and less frustrating to make something like that yourself.
"If you build it, it will be done."
Sorry - that was a corny thing to say.

RockoonzThanks for the suggestion. I’m currently using the black liquid gasket with some rubber gasket paper. Get it set, then cut out and reapplied to the machine. I appreciate the advice.

Tractor supply sells gasket sheets as well as most Auto Supply houses . Also you can buy form a gasket in different grades . I would wipe everything down with acetone or at least alcohal to get it good and clean

broseph82 how is it progressing? Another consideration with that gearbox is that you can put a pretty thick oil in it that will be less prone to leaking, or even just open the cover periodically and either coat everything with grease or get a spray can of open gear lube and coat it down at every oil change. My HP saws use grease, the cover is just to keep things safe and clean. Lots of people add gaskets and "upgrade" to a wet sump, but I have only added the gasket if I take the saw apart for other reasons.

I got a sheet of rubber gasket and 90min liquid gasket and applied to both sides. Worked like a charm. Currently been running this saw non-stop now. I had to change out the bearings, belts, and installed casters as well. Also had two days of cleaning out a saw that hadn’t run or been cleaned out in years. That was fun /s. Couldn’t pass it up for $800 as it’s all in very nice shape. After reading your response I went to autozone close by and got both the items that I needed. Thank You so much for you help
