Very nice Ron, that's really a cool shape. What kind of wood is that? Thanks Cher. Actually it's willow. Diamond willow is really just any one of a variety of willow tree that gets a fungus that causes the diamond pattern to show where the branches would be. Once the fungus infects an area, it will infect all the willows in that location. Michigan is not one of the best places for diamond willow, in fact the state has the fungus listed as an obnoxious pest and actively tries to prevent it. I have a location where willows grow and it once produced nice diamonds, but the area has been flooded for several years (thanks to the beaver) and while willows like to grow next to water, they won't grow "in" the water. The DNR recently renewed their policy of dynamiting the beaver dams, so the area has returned to it's former semi-marsh status, and the willows are growing again. Unfortunately, none of them are really big enough to do anything much with plus I need time for the fungus to reestablish itself. I couldn't resist taking the largest one I could find and making this. Ron
