I was diagnosed on 12-29 with a nasty virus. This has been the worst illness I have ever had and have had a few major ones in the past.
I had been vaccinated for this virus, against Dr.’s orders, due to other medical conditions.
I worked the previous Sunday, no problem.
Late Monday was notified that I co-worker I had not been with in over a month had tested positive for the virus. All employees were required to be tested.
I woke up Tuesday very sick. Was scheduled to work that day. Did not work, as I was too sick to be tested or do anything.
Felt better, so went to be tested. I was also scheduled to work Wednesday. Due to the volume of people being tested, my results did not come in until after my start to work time.
I tested positive. Was required to be off work for 5 days.
Felt fine until Friday. Then all @#$% broke loose. Had a 102 fever. Constant coughing. Sore throat. Low blood oxygen. Very weak.
This continued for 5 days.
I still had to take care of my animals, so they were top priority.
I was sleeping 15-20 hours/day and doing little else.
My daughter brought me some groceries and a new heated water dish for my dog. Yes, the one I had died while I was sick.
To make matters worse, my insurance no longer covers my Dr. or no health care providers within 45 miles of me. The closest facility that does blood tests, has an ER and X-Rays is about 75 miles away. I could not find any affordable insurance that covers my Dr. or any others close by.
I can only sit down for abuot 20 minutes at a time, so having a medical provider that far away does not work for me.
Insurance assigned me a Dr. outside of my driving ability.
I had to cancell all appointments for January, which included two pre-op exams.
My medical background and some medical equipment helped me to monitor conditions and self treat as I could.
I finally did a tele appointment via my insurance. Was able to give the Dr. documented info on what had happened, how I treated it, etc. The Dr. said I did everything correctly. Dr. also said it sounded like I had two different viruses at the same time.
The Dr. prescribed some meds, which my daughter picked up for me.
Finally, after about 15 days I am beginning to feel better.
Am still very weak. Coughing some. Using a rescue inhaler as needed.
Working at building up stamina enough to go back to work next week.
This was much worse than the pneumonia I had in 2021.
I am thankful that I had the support of my Daughter and she was able to bring me what I needed. She also texted me about every other day to make sure I was OK.
It is very scary to live alone and be so sick.
