I didn't want to make a new thread, but also didn't want to hijack rickfl 's post. So I decided to just make it a new post.
Got my Lot-o mounted and decided to do a trial run with rocks from the flower beds just to see how well the action is. I only ran it for about 5 minutes before dumping everything back out, but to me everything seemed to go okay. I guess we'll see how it goes this weekend.
What do y'all think. Look fine? I don't want to adjust the dowel unless I have to.
Also, my first impression is that this machine is way quieter than I had been led to believe. When I first started tumbling at the beginning of last year, I almost got a Lot-o but eventually decided not to because "vibratory tumblers are really loud." I mean, it's definitely louder than the rotary, but in the garage I couldn't hear it through the wall in the kitchen, so it'll be fine noise wise.
The other thing is that the inside of my barrel has a weird lump in it. It's hard to get pictures of the inside, but here are two. Is this something I should be concerned about? My second barrel should be arriving today so I'll have another barrel to compare it against soon.
Once I start using the Lot-o I can repurpose my three 3lb barrels to run coarse. Though, I may get rid of the 33a and just run two 3lb barrels on the 33b. I had been using the 33a and a dedicated barrel for polish. We'll see. This weekend will be fun. I'll get to:
1. I have a barrel that will be finishing up polish, so shiny rocks!
2. I have two barrels finishing up 500AO, so I should be able to run them through the Lot-o for polish
3. Now that I've got my Dremel and attachments, pull out the Tiger's Eye that had the lumps and cut/grind them off.
4. I think I'll take the remaining Tiger's Eye from the 6lb barrel and move them (still in coarse) to the two 3lb barrels that just finished pre-polish.
5. In the 3lb barrel that just finished polish, I'll start some of the quartz I recently ordered in coarse.
6. In the 6lb barrel, I can start some of the Jaspers I've got. I've got a few pounds of Picture Jasper, Snakeskin Jasper, South Dakota Prairie Agate, and Zebra Jasper that have been waiting for the Tiger's Eye to finish.
Honestly, I think one of the best things about now having the Lot-o is that I can run different batches through coarse at the same time.
Anyway, not to distract from my original question... How does the movement in the barrel look and should I be concerned about the wart in the barrel?
