This picture shows a fully loaded UV-18 vibe run for 4 hours and charged with the 120/220 grit plus borax. Notice the even grey color and distribution of large, medium, and small media material and fill on the bowl. I monitor for water every few hours and add as necessary. Should I add too much water I add and remove several paper towels until the motion is correct. I run for 2 days but do cut off at night because of quick sludge buildup when a lot of scraps are tumbled. This tumble has a few cabs and a lot of colorful trim cuts that I to give to children in the neighborhood. I do not cut the other cycles off at night because the abrasion is much less and proper tumbling action is more easily maintained.

Interesting that you use borax in the silicon cabide stage. I assume that is to make the action more gentle. In the Lot-O tumbler, there is no way I could add borax to that stage, or the action would grind to a halt as soon as the grit started breaking down into a slurry.

Halojonthan, I use plenty of media, filler, grit and 2-3 tbl of borax per load. The load that is pictured has about 10 cabs and is being run mainly for giveaway to neighborhood children. Most of the filler is very colorful petrified wood end cuts or imperfections.

Thanks for mentioning the paper towel trick for too much water. I've had too much water before and just added a little more grit (or) borax until I got the action right.
