This is listed on The Rock Shed site, just curious if anyone had success tumbling or making cabs with? It looks kinda fun to work with. Under UV Light

Pretty hard stuff, I've cabbed a piece and had another tumbling for what seems like forever. A lot of the stuff we find here (pretty much on the border of South Dakota) has some nice fortifications and banding, though...

No, but I’m a big fan of “The South Dakota Kid”.

Hard to tell much from the pictures they had on their site.

I haven't worked it...but I sure as heck am wondering where he's getting it from! Would love to find some "out in the wild"! No, but I’m a big fan of “The South Dakota Kid”. Me too! I got to meet Shane when he came into the local pool hall when he was in town awhile back. He really has been an amazing talent, as well as a great ambassador for pool. Nice guy too. He loves fishing and goes out to wet a line with a friend of mine when he's in town.

Ok, you got me, Jason... Seriously, though, that stuff is all over around here. I have pictures in a thread somewhere. Unless I decided to toss it I'm pretty sure I have a bagful in the garage...also somewhere.

Next time we get together at Teepee (or down there sometime) I'm going to bug you about bringing me a chunk...we'll figure out something for me to bring to trade.

If I can ever find it I'll just send you a piece...or twenty. Or if I can I'll have to remember to pick up a few nice pieces for you the next time we're out.

Thanks for busting into the archives Mike.

This may be a dumb question, but would something like this still glow under a black light after being tumbled and polished? My 4 year old has a black light in his room that we use to charge up his glow in the dark stars. I think he'd really enjoy having some rocks that glow too.

He’s definitely a cool cat, really like his style!

I would imagine it wouldn't be a problem Kind of unknown topic to me as well, but a quick search shows that more popular stones like sodalite, flourite, and calcite show under UV light. howtofindrocks.com/what-rocks-and-minerals-glow-under-uv-light/Also stones like Yooperlite if you can get your hands on them. Jugglerguy Rob did a video on Yooperlite showing that they will still glow after tumbling

The only glowing rocks I really have experience with are Yooperlites. They only glow when under U.V. light. When you turn the light off, they don't continue to glow like your son's stars do. They also only glow really well under a fairly expensive U.V. light that is bad for your eyes and skin. Many fluorescent minerals only glow under certain wavelengths and the lights can be very expensive.
