So, since Henry ( HankRocks ) beat me to posting pictures of Black Skin Agates, I figured I'd better get these off dop and post some pictures of my own! LOL - These are quickly becoming one of my favorite materials to work. The other day my wife saw one of the Black Skin Agates and said she thought it looked like fish skin! Now that she said that, I tend to see it too! LOL - With that being in question, Ali or Nate ( MsAli and NDK ) do these look like trout or bust fish? Of course, the last picture is a Mexican Royal Velvet Obsidian cab. I'm starting to understand the inside swoop a lot more. (Note: This one will automatically be everyone's favorite...so think about which one is your second favorite! LOL) As always, thanks for taking a gander and comments and critiques are always welcome. Those are beautiful, Jason!
#2 definitely reminds me of the spots on a trout. I guess that makes #2 my #2.
The shape of the velvet obsidian is perfect for the pattern. I like the gentle swoop you got on that one.

I was just thinking you hadn't posted in a while jasoninsd! Those look great. The velvet it my favorite still though. Great job. Those teardrops suit the stones perfectly.

Fantastic cabs and polish my friend. You've definitely nailed the swoop! #5 is my second favorite.

Well jasoninsd I've never caught a trout so I can't comment on that, but I have caught plenty of bust fish. I imagine there's several members who have... They look something like this 🤣 Other than that, I like the swoops. Can you get a straight on shot of #5?

I guess my second favorite is #5, although all are top notch. Is #5 a free form? I love that shape, compliments the stone perfectly.

6,1,2,3 in that order. Containing myself and not going to say it.😁 Thanks Bry! Yeah...I know! LOL My #2 is #6. You already know what #1 is. Thanks Tela! Mine is #6, followed by everything else. LOL They are all beautiful, Jason! The swoop in #5 is awesome. Thanks Robin! I didn't have #5 planned for a swoop. I've done that shape a lot without the swoop, but as I started to grind it, I thought I wanted another "practice" one before the Obsidian one. Those are beautiful, Jason! #2 definitely reminds me of the spots on a trout. I guess that makes #2 my #2. The shape of the velvet obsidian is perfect for the pattern. I like the gentle swoop you got on that one. Thanks Brian! Yeah...now I can't unsee how it resembles a trout! LOL I was just thinking you hadn't posted in a while jasoninsd! Those look great. The velvet it my favorite still though. Great job. Those teardrops suit the stones perfectly. Thanks Perk! I'm glad you like the teardrop shaped ones...that makes two of us! LOL Fantastic cabs and polish my friend. You've definitely nailed the swoop! #5 is my second favorite. Thanks my friend! I'm still pretty intimidated doing the swoop. It's an interesting technique...which I'm not even sure if I'm doing them right. LOL Well jasoninsd I've never caught a trout so I can't comment on that, but I have caught plenty of bust fish. I imagine there's several members who have... They look something like this 🤣 Other than that, I like the swoops. Can you get a straight on shot of #5? Thanks Nate! I definitely don't want to catch one of those! LOL I added straight on pictures of both 5 & 6. I'm assuming you wanted to see how much swoop there is to them. I just went and checked the cabs against the wheel...and if it's possible to get more of an inside swoop to these, I'm all ears. The inside angle matches the curve of the wheel...but if you hold a straight edge up to the pictures, it looks like there's hardly any swoop at all. When I started to work the swoop, I scoured the forum for straight on shots of swooped cabs. There are some. I checked a straight edge against the swoop and was surprised there wasn't really all that much curve to them. The last picture shows a SWOOP! LOL - That was one of the first cabs I did...but it was with a Dremel...so the inside swoop was achieved with a 1/2" grinding wheel. (Note the difference in polish! LOL) I couldn't resist...it was the first thing I thought of when I went to post these! LOL I guess my second favorite is #5, although all are top notch. Is #5 a free form? I love that shape, compliments the stone perfectly. Thanks Don! Number 5 is not a freeform start to finish. The swooped side was originally laid out as a straight edge...but I felt like swooping...not swooning...just swooping. So, it's more of an alteration to a stencil shape. LOL

Thanks Jason. I only ask for the full frontal shot because I like seeing the cabs straight on. They are beautiful! It is interesting how little the swoop really shows in pictures. If I may, I would say this is my best swoop cab to date. Full radius of the 6" wheel on that inside curve.

Nate, those pictures are welcome all day long...in this one or even if I started a thread about the hibernating habits of the Alpine Marmot! LOL That's a gorgeous example of an inside swoop. Flat out, it's stunning! Now, if you only look at the top inch, the bottom inch, or any single inch in-between, it doesn't look like the curve is really all that much there...but when you put all the inches together, the curvature looks so pronounced! Pretty amazing! I did purposely take the photos from the side a bit in order to show the girdle in the swoop. But for the record...I too thoroughly enjoy a full frontal! LOL

jasoninsdThe blackskin agates are all attractive, and I can tell they are super-duper shiny. #2 is probably my favorite. #5 is a close second. The swoop compliments the pattern in that one. That velvet obsidian is amazing no matter how you shape it, and this one is no exception. I have become somewhat desensitized to its beauty after seeing your prior two rounds, but it is still the most amazing sheen obsidian I have ever seen. Finally, I also liked seeing #5 and #6 straight on. For symmetrical cabs, your angled photos look great since they show off the dome and polish. But for the asymmetrical ones, the 90 degree photos certainly show the shape more accurately.

I suppose seeing the Velvet Obsidian too frequently is akin to eating prime rib every night...it's going to get cumbersome at some point! (Although, I'd like to try it for a couple weeks and just see at what point I stop enjoying it! LOL) I wasn't too sure I liked #5 once it was done...but it's growing on me. LOL - I thought I had thinned out the bottom of it just a hair too much...like it needed to be a hair fatter on the bottom right. Thanks for the tips on the photos. I generally look at the cab from a couple different angles, then pick the one that the pattern isn't hindered by the reflection...
