I don't know if any of you have heard of Jim Fowler, but he was one of the granddaddies of wire wrapping. I think he started out in the 70's. He passed away in 2020. He used to do a lot of shows and was a staple of the Eastern US shows. Well, I love the work of the old timers, so when I got a chance to buy one of his pieces, I jumped on it. The stone is a flashy black Imori stone aka Victoria Stone. The picture really does it no justice. I am so impressed by his work. Another guy I have always liked and who inspired me most, other than some silversmiths, was Ed Sinclair. I don't have any of his work, but it would go in my collection like this one.
Here is a YT interview with Jim Fowler. The sound quality is terrible, though.
Here is a copper piece I just finished. No patina, yet. It is a fosslized fern.
Thanks for looking.

Very nice, Tela! I like the bail...the wire on the bottom...and the cab of course.

Tela, we stopped by Jim’s booth three shows a year for about fifteen years until the corona shut ‘em all down in 2020. Sorry to hear he died that year. A few months before I started cabbing, I bought my wife a Morrisonite cab she liked from one dealer and had Jim wrap it when we got around to his booth. The girdle on this cab is 2mm at most and he groove wrapped it freehand with a Foredom and a slicer blade,

On Jim's or mine? Mine is a store bought bail. I just purchased and have not received about 100 different copper bails. Copper wire is soft. I like having the option of using premade bails on copper. Both of those are very cool indeed. Thanks! Jim's piece is really beautiful in person. I'm so glad he chose not to cover that gorgeous stone with wire. Very nice, Tela! I like the bail...the wire on the bottom...and the cab of course. Thank you, my friend. I didn't cab this stone. It was a recent purchase from the same folks who sold the Fowler piece. Beautiful stone and the wrap is nice and clean. I regret that I never got to meet Jim. I may have seen him at a show and didn't know it, though. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! The price was so right on Jim's piece. I couldn't pass it up. I would have paid more, but I didn't have to.

Those are some astonishing pieces! I thank you and I'm sure Jim would. True artistry shown in this thread! Definite examples to strive toward! Thanks for posting these Tela! Jim was wrapping for 50 years and I have been doing it for 20. I think we BOTH have something to strive for.

rockjunquie , Sorry to hear about Jim's death - I hadn't known. I got to know him a bit back in the 1990s and later at the Tucson Gem Shows. His speed at wrapping and "while-U-wait" designs amazed me. I'll have to dig out and photograph a faceted blue topaz I had him wrap for my wife: simple but nice.

I'd love to see it. I wish I had met him.
