We had a rare snow event. SIX inches! The whole of Tidewater is on lockdown. DH was off yesterday. Stihl never shuts down! This place is nuts when we get snow. But, we had a nice warm hobby day. I did a lot of piddling and got a few wraps done.
One of my favorite picture stones is Nature's Paintbrush aka Chinese Paintbrush. I wish I had a consistent source for it. I don't even know where it comes from, but I wish I could someone at the source. I used another new wire on this, but I forgot to get a side picture. It is another woven wire, but it is round instead of flat.
The Marra Mamba Tiger Eye or Tiger Iron needs to be seen in person. It is very chatoyant- if that's the right word. Looks really good in copper. The Petrified Fern is one I posted already without the patina. It has a patina now.
Still working out the camera and trying to get the nerve to shoot manually. I tried to shoot with a black background, but it didn't work out. It seems like I have a focus issue, too. I can't figure out why! I hate photography.

No, but I'm going to do some digging to see if I can find out. It's gorgeous stuff. I've never worked it, but would love to find some to try. If I do figure it out, I'll let you know.

Ok, one place said it somes from Asia (big help, huh?) and another said it comes from Guangxi, China. I've done some searching and all I can find are 8mm beads made from it at one place. No rough or slabs to be found.

8 years ago!!! Man, my memory is slipping! Thanks! Geez, how embarrassing. I remember someone saying it was Chinese, but I found other sources online saying that it was from here, out West somewhere.

Those are fantastic! Really like that first one. And I second you on the hating photography. Never quite turns out like it is in person, and I'd rather spend the time cutting more rocks lol.

The Nature's Paintbrush really looks like a painted lake scene.
Yes, I imagine that much snow really messes things up by you.

It took me so many years to work out my other cameras and shooting in a light tent. I feel like it will be another few years to work this out. I know the camera is very capable. I just don't have as much faith in MY abilities. The Nature's Paintbrush really looks like a painted lake scene. Yes, I imagine that much snow really messes things up by you. It really does, Beth. I have only had a few of of these with such great pictures. I'm always looking for more.
Yeah, we are NOT used to snow. LOL!
The are all very nice. If you ever find a source for the Paintbrush...please share it! I will if you will.

I guess, I'll just concede that it is from China.

For anyone wanting to see more of these stones... here are the other ones I have finished. I have posted these before, but some are old.

I just did a search for Chinese grass and flower stone and these popped up. No rough. I don't think I'll be getting any to play with unless I find a slab in an estate sale.

I always like looking at your wire wraps. They are so nicely done and interesting wire designs. But of the stones I like your fossil fern the best.

I love your wire wraps and the way you get maximum exposure on the cabs. Just an FYI, the "fern" is actually Palm Agate from Mexico which is not a fossil agate but rather a form of sagenite.

Sabre52 Mel you're like a walking, talking rock encyclopedia. It's amazing how much you know. We're are so lucky that you're here!
