I remember the Study Butte Rockshop. Bought a few pieces there myself, out in the back or front, can't remember. Seems like there was German couple that owned it for a while. There used to also be pretty decent agate at the Lajitas Trading Post, it really wasn't sorted and did find a couple real nice pieces there.

HankRocks, this was the shop and the large pile was in the front. They did seem to have a German accent but also knew the local Needle Peak agate. They said where most of the Mexican agate came from but it should be cut for positive identification.

I'm thinking those are Rio Grande agate. Especially of the rough was a cobble. If not a river cobble, then there are resemblances to Sonoran Plume. Years ago, the Study Butte rockshop had a huge pile of Rios to paw through. But then of course, the ancient Rio Grande drainage washed in agate from all over Mexico and the southwest.

Sabre52, the stone was probably a cobble. I selected this piece based on intense red color and had no idea what was inside. The nice Parcelas that you identified a few months ago came from the same pile but was definitely a nodule.

What stands out to me is the intensity of the reds. Good luck with an ID. There are just so many different varieties of moss / plume / flame agates from Mexico that ID is hard. There are no doubt hundreds of sites in Mexico where similar material has been mined over the past 100 years.
