So, I was blessed to receive a box this week filled with some goodies from holajonathan . I'll be working some of the other material sooner rather than later. LOL Here's the Royal Imperial Jasper pieces I got to work. The first three pieces do have some small fractures...but the last one is as close to perfection as I can achieve right now. I do have to say, my wife saw the slab that last one came out of from across the garage. She was horrified when I said I was going to cut it! She wanted it kept as a display slab...which didn't happen. LOL As always, thanks for taking a gander and comments and critiques are always welcome.

Beautiful work and cabs brother. Thank you SO much! It was really fun material to work! OMG! Those are awesome! You did good. Thanks Tela! I spent a bit of time on the 280 soft and a LOT of looks through the optivisor on these! 'nuff not said. Thanks Robin! I can absolutely see why this material is sought after! Thank you SO very much! When I said I was "blessed" to get this material, I meant it!

What amazing material! Just kidding. The first three fall in the narrow category of rocks worth cabbing despite obvious fractures. I almost didn't send you the second one because it was a shabby little slablet, but the contrast between the green and cream colors is great. In the third one, the fractures in the rock sort of compliment the "fractures" in the pattern and don't distract from the appearance. What I like about this material is not only the patterns, which are often otherworldly, but the color palette is a little different than most other rocks. The colors are pure and intense, almost they were drawn with crayons. The only other jaspers I have seen with similar colors are also so-called "porcelain" jaspers, like Blue Mountain, Willow Creek, Morrisonite, and the vein form of Imperial Jasper. The last one is much nicer as a cab than as a slab. You made the right decision.

The last one is much nicer as a cab than as a slab. You made the right decision. Thanks my friend...for all of it! I know...this material practically cabs itself! LOL So, on the first one the top was supposed to be the bottom. The pattern on the back is slightly better than the front. But...as I was shaping the preform, the "back" fractured off at an angle. Just the right angle to make a low dome. So, that's why the back became the front! The picture on that second one is one of my favorite pics. You can see the picture on the wall, the stand for the light, my shoulder and phone, and all the lights in the "chandelier"! LOL The third one is...GASP...a freeform! LOL - I just trimmed off the edge around the jasper, and followed the edge. I didn't want to lose any of that pattern. I don't regret for one moment cutting the slab for that last one! LOL Man, you have really stepped up your cab game since last I looked Jason! All are sweet but the fourth one is amazing!! Thanks Brian! It's a combination of great material and the new cabbing machine!

LOL In other words, you've got to make sure you're fully dressed with photographing the RIJ cabs. If not, and if you photograph at the wrong angle, you might end up showing off more than just your cab!

The picture on that second one is one of my favorite pics. You can see the picture on the wall, the stand for the light, my shoulder and phone, and all the lights in the "chandelier"! LOL In other words, you've got to make sure you're fully dressed with photographing the RIJ cabs. If not, and if you photograph at the wrong angle, you might end up showing off more than just your cab! Right!?! LOL It would definitely make for an interesting "cab that slab" contest...and quite the double entendre as well! LOL

Thank you so much! I should probably post some pics of some material that I've worked recently that was at the FAR other end of the spectrum! LOL

Wow, one of my favorite materials and what a great shine. Awesome batch of cabs! Thanks Mel! I can see why it's one of your favorite materials! I'd put it at right the top of my favorites list...but since accessibility plays a part in where exactly it lands on the list, I'd have to leave this one a little further down than the top! LOL Fantastic cabs of some fantastic materials! I love the colors and patterns in the first and last ones. Thanks Brian! My favorite color combo out of the batch is in that first one. The green and blue tones are SO beautiful! Look at this guy... multiple shapes, inside swoops and a shine that could blind an eagle from miles away... WOW! Thanks my friend! It was the first time I had to finish any of the cabs while wearing a welding helmet!
