In case you're wondering why I am doing so much posting and wrapping... DH his on a new shift. I am not adjusting to it well, but I AM getting more wrapping in at night. I guess I am getting 2 pieces a night done.
This one didn't photograph too well and I can't understand why. It's a flashy seraphinite with a dead zone. I thought it was a good spot for a curl. LOL! This is (what I assume to be stabilized) Gasepite. This is likely Canadian material. I like it and the price was right.
Thanks for looking.

Well...would you please thank DH for us! I can understand it's probably not exactly what y'all are wanting...but we're definitely benefiting. They're both gorgeous! The swirl on that first one is placed amazingly well to be very pleasing to the eye!

He was on first shift for more than 20 years. Usually I'm the one who welcomes change, but he has really embraced this and I'm glad.

That copper swirl on top of the dark, with the flash beaming out under it. Nice work.

Glad you think so, thanks! Hmmmm. I’d like to make one with a treble clef on it. I think I have seen a tutorial for that on YT. Oh lord that Seraphinite 😍 Beautiful. Can't really say much else... 🙂 Thanks, Mike. Have you been doing any wrapping?

Beautiful, I love them both! I'm not familiar with Gasepite, very cool! Australian Gasepite is much more rare and prettier. I have a lot of nice ones from Canada, though.

Well, what hobby would that be?!? (Because rock related hobbies aren't working for a lot of us with regards to maintaining sanity! LOL)

I love the way you change the shape and the angle of the two little bends at the bottom of the cabs. I'm talking about the little v-shapes that hold the cab in place. (I don't know the proper name.) In the second photo, the bend is tight, creating two little points. That one small detail is my favorite thing about the second wrap. As for the stone, the intense green and the brecciated part are both yummy.

When I am working, I work with the stone and sometimes I have no idea what I'm going to do. Even though I do sketches of most of them, the smaller details I leave for the hands on work. Things like the lockwires and how they need to be for the stone and wrap are usually on the fly.

When I look at cabs, wrapped cabs, or other art, I like thinking about why I like what I like. If I stick my finger over your pointy lock wires in the second cab, I lose interest in the wrap. They disrupt the lines flowing down the sides of the cab and point my eyes back towards the center of the cab. Our eyes and brains follow lines and points whether we realize it or not. At least I think that's what's going on.

At least I think that's what's going on. I call them lockwires. I don't know what other people call them. But, come to think about- Ed Sinclair might have called them that in his book. It's been a while since I read it.
I think you're right about our eyes being drawn by what we are looking at. Makes sense. When I work, I'm just looking for the best options- to my mind.
