Has anyone here ever dealt with this business? Wondering if they are still there.
Minnesota Lapidary Supply 201 N. Rum River Drive Princeton, MN 55371
(They have elk hide laps on page 38 of their catalog.)

I have bought just about everything I use from Mr. Carver and I guarantee you can't find a better store to deal with ! He also has a few used and refurbished tumblers on hand that he sells for reasonable prices . The only thing I haven't bought there are shaped wheels, not flat faced .

I think I bought something from them years ago. So many places have closed. It's good to hear this one is still up and running.

I updated the subject line of this thread after hearing from members that MLS is still in business.
The elk polishing leathers are in their catalog - whether or not they're "in stock" is another question, right?

Both Nate and I have visited them and I can say they are really awesome people. He can come off a tad grumpy at 1st though. Give them a call tomorrow as they are closed Mondays. And he actually may be down in Tuscon this time of year. Another option is NDK and I are headed that way Saturday. We could stop in and check for you

Thanks, Ali.
A couple of people on here were discussing polishing methods, and elk hide came up during that thread.
They're probably not as widely available as they might have been in the past, so I did a search. A 2019-20 catalog page showing them was all I found, so I thought I'd ask if anyone up your way could verify they were still in business.
We actually bought a couple of quarter-hides a few years ago that we've used to make our own.
It's nice that the only comments we've gotten back about Mr. Carver(?) have been nothing but positive.
Thanks again!

I'm still trying to figure out how you get the elk to stand still long enough to rub rocks on them!

I'm still trying to figure out how you get the elk to stand still long enough to rub rocks on them! They do have pretty poor eyesight

I may be out of date but Richardson's Ranch used to sell Elk Hide Lap covers for their polisher. Some one gave me five or six several years ago but I have no idea how to confirm they are Elk and not something else. We put one on the shop lap about 10 years ago and it has lasted forever. Works great and stands up to heavy use.

hummingbirdstones2 hummingbirdstones & anyone else interested: Ali and I stopped at MLS yesterday on the way through and I inquired about the elk hide laps. Well to be fair we looked at rocks too 😁. They do have them and also in cowhide. The lady at the shop informed us the 2020 catalog is their current catalog, as they're having issues with getting the new catalog together. I forget the exact reason she said. She also let us know the prices of the elk & cowhide laps hasn't changed but some other items prices have changed. Hope this helps 👍

I got a new elk hide for one of my Richardsons 12" slow wheels a couple years ago, maybe I'll find it and the machine at the same time soon. A bonus would be to figure out where my cerium is.
