This is Wayne's ( vwfence ) creation, but I'm posting photos for him. He can add more details about his creation. Other members have posted similar DIY laps, but for those who may be interested in making their own, another example can't hurt. Wayne says he spent $150 including the variable speed buffer.

harbor freight polisher 35 dollars piece of scrap 2x12 frying pan stolen from wife diamond pads 7 inch 60 dollars when built pumbing fittings 11 dollars 4x4 post mount for deck building 12 dollars misc screws and bolts this totals 128 dollars and doesnt include a ground fault extension cord that i use for other things .
