Good afternoon from northern New Mexico! I've been tumbling rocks for about a month now, and it's a hoot! I have a Lot-O-Tumbler vibrating tumbler and have done 4-pound loads of mixed quartzes I filched from my mom's landscaping, rose quartz, amethyst quartz, prairie agates, and petrified wood. Waiting in the wings are citrine, Mexican lace agate, aventurine, and some cool Arizona agate. I look forward to learning a lot on this board! I'm a health and safety specialist, and this week we had a little incident at work in which demolition rubble from a building rather abruptly entered another building. People were watching the passing street scene from their offices without benefit of windows. A couple people were really outstanding in getting folks out of the building, calling emergency management, and doing other things to make sure everyone was safe, so the next day I took them some rose quartz and amethyst quartz and said, "You rock!" They really liked their rocks, and I think I've found a cool way to share the pieces I've tumbled. I hope everyone is having a weekend full o' swellness! Warmest regards, DurboRox

Hi DurboRox,
Welcome to the board, in my experience too, everyone likes being given a tumbled stone.
A bit of tumbled stone as a gift for whatever reason (even for being clobbered on the head by falling debris!) always goes down great.
Cheers Andy.

Welcome to the board! Based on some of the pictures I have seen of other rocks from Australia, you have some very nice rock to work with. I live in Michigan and we used to mine a lot of iron but that's all played out a long time ago. Various types of iron ore are still easy to find here, and the old piles of debris from the mines can still produce good finds. Oh, and don't forget, we love to see pictures!
