I was super blessed to receive some material last week from Robin and Vince ( hummingbirdstones hummingbirdstones2 ). I'll be posting some more stuff from them later this week...but amongst the items in the box was some St. John's Agate. This is just gorgeous material! Thank you both so much!

Wow, you did those pieces proud! Beautiful cabs. The black and red St. John's has always been my favorite. Your pieces are stunning!

DING DING DING DING - WE HAVE A WINNER...!
Sixty pounds of the St Johns rough went out from here - and these are the first cabs we've seen from it.
Granted, some folks have been frozen out of the shop for a while, and one box disappeared under a rockpile somewhere.
Beautiful work on those, Jason. I see you got past almost all the "internal characteristics" of that one piece. It was worth saving, huh.
The last one turned out better than I thought it might. You really brought out every bit of what it had to offer.
Thanks for posting these. It's a treat to see them.

Those are some nice cabs Jason! They look like colorful cake with a shape and polish to me, especially the first one.

Oh man, those are nice!!! That second one is especially nice. What a nice gift! Thanks Tela! That second one was a questionable one...but I agree, the stone really allowed me to work it pretty well! Wow, you did those pieces proud! Beautiful cabs. The black and red St. John's has always been my favorite. Your pieces are stunning! Thanks Robin! I was starting with the Kaleidoscope Jasper, but these three kept staring at me. So, after I finished one of the KJ's, I switched over to these three! LOL - It really is gorgeous material! Thank you SO much! DING DING DING DING - WE HAVE A WINNER...!

Thanks Vince!! I knew I couldn't wait too long to work these pieces after you had been showing Robin's pendant and the "sister" piece to it! LOL You know, there's one spot on that second one that I just didn't want to keep grinding past. The rest of the pits went away pretty well, and I liked where it was at, so I stopped trying to "improve" it any more. There is a fracture on the bottom of that second one. I wasn't sure if it was going to hold together, but not only was it solid enough, you can't feel it with a fingernail, so that really worked out. That last one really worked easy. I tried to follow the flow of that banding line with the top edge of the cab, and I think it came out pretty close. Thank you guys again for the generosity! It may be a treat to see them, but it was more of a treat to be able to work this material! I agree that looks amazing. Well done Jason! Thanks Nate! I haven't worked a lot of material that has such a white color to it. Polka Dot Agate was the other one I worked. I think it's more difficult (for me) to see the scratches while working them, so I was squinting as hard as I could to check these out while working them! LOL Those are some nice cabs Jason! They look like colorful cake with a shape and polish to me, especially the first one. Thanks Perk! That first one really does kind of look like "confetti cake"! LOL

jasoninsd Sweet cabs! Something different, for sure. #1 is my favorite because of the strong contrasting colors. hummingbirdstones2Give me some time, Vince. It hasn't exactly been outdoor cutting weather as of late. This is what it looks like right now: I use my big trim saw outside only, in front of the barn in the photo. There is currently about 18" of snow on the ground, with 2-3' deep snow drifts. As soon as some of this snow melts and I can push my saw outside, I will cab the hell out of it, I promise.

Thanks my friend! I think that first one is my favorite as well. I used as much of the slabette as I could on that one. I would have preferred to use the other side as there was a little more pink to that side, but there was a chip out of the edge, which made me use the other side for the dome. If you were really devoted, you'd get to shovelin' all that snow to make room for the saw! (Just teasing! I wouldn't freakin' do it! LOL) Those are some nice cabs Jason! jasoninsd I've been doing plenty of shoveling, don't you worry about that. Indeed, I've shoveled this same sidewalk at least 5 times over the past two days. I drink coffee while cabbing. The food can wait.

Aw, who cares about dinner anyway.

LOL Kidding...I hate those snowfalls where you shovel, go back inside, look out 20 minutes later and can't even see where you shoveled! Although it's WAY easier to do it along the way, rather than leaving the 18" to shovel all at once...especially when it's the heavy wet snow!

It came down heavy and wet for half a day with temps hovering around 33 degrees, and then the temperature plummeted. I've learned from 30 years of shoveling snow that if I don't get the slushy stuff up in a hurry, it turns into ice, and is impossible to remove. It was an annoying snow storm where it snowed at a slow to moderate pace for about 48 hours straight.

Yep...it's not one of those "chores" to be put off...otherwise you're right...it becomes a chiseling rather than shoveling!

The food can wait. We don't have much snow left up here but when we did, it looked like that. An effective less labor-intensive way to remove snow is to get a propane torch! 😂

Wow great cabs and great examples of that material. That first one shows why that used to be called Flower Agate. That one is really outstanding!

I will admit that first one really is my favorite. I amazes me how many different names some material have or have had. What amazes me even more are the people (like yourself) who remember them all!

holajonathan - I have no doubt you'll cut that rough, and I felt bad when you guys posted pictures of all that white substance all over the ground!
It's been a while since the boxes were put together, but I thought there were at least a couple in each box small enough to cab without sawing. God knows I dug anything large enough to cut outta' the mud that day. Threw as much back - after spraying it off and looking at it - as I put in the buckets.
