I'm wondering if there is enough interest in doing a Roaming Wire IX? If we get enough interested people, let's get one started. Take a look at the sticky of the last one to see what it's all about. Kinda like the traveling rock box.
ETA- I'm gonna wrap this up soon. I think we have enough to start a box.

rockjunquie I'm a maybe. It really all depends on how busy I am when it starts. I think I read in the original thread where someone was tentative. The solution was to move them down the list if they were busy at the time it was their turn... You know...not trying to goad you into being a part of it...just saying there's an easy solution...you know...IF you wanted to be a participant...you know...just sayin'... ETA - You know Tommy hasn't committed either...so you know...don't feel badly or anything...

- You know Tommy hasn't committed either...so you know... The thing is I am literally not a wire wrapper in any stretch of the imagination. I dabbled a little bit with the traditional styles but my fat fingers and clumsy pliers work left a lot to be desired and after multiple attempts and a Tela tutorial I accepted that I did not like how it was going and that it was not for me. I felt like I was struggling mightily just to get to get good at a style that I couldn't even call my own. So with that in mind I developed my prong style based loosely on a video I found on youtube and I had reasonable success with it as measured the "my wife likes it" scale and nobody else was doing it so that gave me a feeling of accomplishment. Truth is nobody is doing it because its very persnickity in what shapes can be done with it. Rectangles are best but at the very minimum at least one flat side at the top of the stone is a requirement. My wife also has a lot of issues with the prongs catching her hair so there's that.

I will have you know, I have been working VERY hard at developing my skills in the art of the guilt trip. I've been trying to pay attention to how my wife and mother do it so well! Apparently I don't have the knack! LOL I totally get it. It's too bad you're saying that style doesn't work from a practicality standpoint...because I really love the looks of that pendant!

I really like the Tommy Lay Original, too. But, every one has their own walk to walk and it's cool if Tommy doesn't dig wire wrapping. We still like him.

On the bright side ... and I have not said this publicly yet ... I'm getting very close to giving metalsmithing a try. Still kind of reading up on it and figuring out the best (cheapest) way to go all in and what equipment I need in order to completely obsess on it until I completely ruin all the fun out of it in the quickest amount of time

You don't need much to start metalsmithing. I started with a plumber's torch and a disposable propane tank from Ace Hardware, some different grits of sandpaper, some files (my first set was a cheap diamond file set I bought off of Ebay for cheap), something to solder on (I use charcoal blocks, but there are a million different soldering blocks now), a tiny crock pot bought at Goodwill for pickle, copper tongs for the pickle, flux for soldering, a jewelers saw and saw blades, some buffs and tripoli and rouge for polishing with my Dremel, and of course, metal and solder (hard, medium and easy). You'll also need some things you probably already have -- pliers, snips to cut the solder if you use sheet solder, etc.
ETA: I use Ph Down for pickle. Walmart has it in the pool and hot tub section. Cheap and it works.

Cheap and it works. I would add a 8' hose to the plumbers torch. It is still almost always what I use, even with a Smiths and another Oxy propane setup. Instead of in this thread, there is good info here: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/62773/metalsmithinng
