guess you got higher perspective Chad and a clearer day to view very cool ... A couple of years ago, when I went on a few days hike down in Missouri, I told the carpool driver that Missouri was it because they had all the clouds.
These big beautiful pillow that filled the sky far as you could see.
I told him, that's what we don't get in Michigan, too hazy, too cloudy in the wrong way. Never the big open skies.
The rest of that summer, I saw nothing but BIG fluffy clouds. You scoff but it's true.
Part of me wonders if they were always there and I just wasn't tuned in, or maybe I had to appreciate the beauty, maybe a change of scenery...
Keeping an eye on this view reminds me of that.

Sometimes when you ask the universe nicely, it throws you a bone. Double Triple the buildings tonight, and to me it looked way more overcast until I glanced towards the horizon....
For jasoninsd so he doesn't have to strain his neck Actually, this is a better representation. It's a reverse shot, transposed. 10 must be a new building or I missed my mark...
These two pictures are driving me nuts. In the first one 7 is the CNA building. It's red. Best known for one really windy city day some lady was walking past it, a window blew out and she was decapitated. On the next picture, 7 is definitely NOT the CNA building. Something's off, but I don't even see the CNA building in the second picture.

But I don't exactly have the best vantage point lol

Interesting Not sure how to account for it Ghostly skyline rises/falls.
Be interesting to see as the earth/sun traverses through the season.

Not sure if that was because it was cloudy, or they were just below the horizon? At any rate, it seems like your set of pictures are a nice example of atmospheric refraction... Air temp/density etc bend light; here's a nice EPOD example of the effect and explanation.

oregon I do think refraction plays a big part if not the entire story on why tbe is such varaition. I don't think it tells the whole picture though. On cold, clear mornings like we had this morning I can easily see the mutiple sets of blinking tower lights across the lake. It's fun to observe the differences either way.

I know, I know another skyline photo However, they skycrapers need an update. Somewhat humid sky tonight, mostly noticed the bright building shining back and then saw the buidings far north of anything I've seen so far. My best guess is Evanston based on a cursory glance at google maps This shot is heavily edited, but it shows more true to what I can see with the naked eye despite the colors. Chicago is the bunch you see on the left, I counted a total of 5 new buildings to the right (north) of what I'm used to seeing. It's nothing at all really, but it's something completely new for me lol
Better zoomed edits...

Lucky Timing Trippy Cloudline
A quick radar check showed a small line of clouds just over the city, wasn't 100% sure what I was seeing

Yo Chad Those skylines are a trick across Lake Mich What about a clear night Do the light shine I can see them at dusk when the sunlight leaves completely. The naked eye can see more than this camera can make out, I have a hard time photographing stars as well for some reason. I can see planes or helicopters over the city, maybe from the airport, they are zipping all over the place for a few hours. Hard to tell how far they are, maybe I can check one of those flight trackers to get an idea.
Hard to tell how far I'm zoomed in this image with no reference point, but you can see the reflection (or refraction, dunno) on the water. Not draw dropping pictures I know...
This is fully zoomed. Hard to tell what the white artifacts are, my guess is something on my lens lol
It looks like it'll be pretty clear tonight, maybe I can play around and catch something.
