These were taken from my apartment balcony (except the first picture), mostly thru the spring and fall. I found them when I was going thru photos on another camera, forgot how many I took
On good days, when I can see the skyline with me naked eye, that's when I know they will photograph well enough.
What jumps out to me is 1. I can't hold a camera straight, even on a tripod. 2. How much the color of the sky changes from day to day and in a matter of minutes. 3. The last few pictures are a very rare occurance from my own observations. The dusk has to be clear enough to see the skyline which only happens I would guess 35-40% of the evenings, and the angle of the sun hitting the windows had to be just right to reflect back to me....craziness. Here is a shot of the skyline up close and a as the crow flies map from my Apt to Sears Tower. It's 57.68 miles across the lake.
As far as I can tell I can only remember seeing 5 buildings at most. It's confusing because looking at skyline photos you would think I would be able to see upwards of maybe a dozen different buildings based on the height.
Very interesting to me. I wish I had a slightly more powerful zoom camera, but maybe I'll catch that perfect day when I see them all.
Here a are a few "videos" of me zooming in to show that I'm doing what I say I am. The video won't focus as well as the camera, not that it does a stellar job either.
Man, I'm missing warm weather...

Only been in this corner for just 9 months, but I know you said you were from Kzoo. That's where I spent most time after school.
I've not heard the Papa John tale...something I need to look up?

Pretty interesting that you can only make out the five or so buildings! I am not a fan of big cities...I kind of like the rural-ish place where I live. But you seem to be keeping the city at a fair distance.

I'm sure it has something to with the refraction, dunno.

I'm about to drive myself crazy scrolling up and down in the thread, trying to match the buildings in your photos to the ones in the skyline shot! I think I've got them matched right! LOL

my explanation of why you only see a few of the buildings is you only capture the tops of the tallest building and the curvature of the earth ha causes a optical collusion....mostly
anyway I'm sure == that not what it is
altho it is interesting as I drive west on Hwy 60 from Globe- coming into Phoenix
the first thing I see is a building top of a skyscraper its a bank at Alma School and Baseline
and more comes into the descending view as the miles west increase I attribute that to the curve....

Actually the 55th floor -- pretty much in the middle of the upper skinny tower. The white crown at the top lights up at night. We called it the birthday cake building because of the crown. It's also the building where the movie Michael filmed John Travolta dying as he was staring up at the Sears Tower. There was a nice courtyard in front of the building and it was a new building at the time. BTW, it did get cold up there and also quite foggy when it rolled in off the lake.

The only problem was my ears would pop going up and down in the elevator. The views were amazing from up there. Got to watch the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds buzz that tower during the Air and Water show. Scared the hell out of me the first time they did it.

Sometimes when you ask the universe nicely, it throws you a bone. Double Triple the buildings tonight, and to me it looked way more overcast until I glanced towards the horizon....
For jasoninsd so he doesn't have to strain his neck Actually, this is a better representation. It's a reverse shot, transposed. 10 must be a new building or I missed my mark...
