To avoid burnout, I like to use a lot of different material. I Got these two Linda Marie Plume slabs from Tony at fullmoon. My hobby before lapidary was landscape photography. When I went out to take pictures, I would be selective and only take pictures that had potential to work with. I do the same thing when buying slabs. For a lot of material, I know what the desirable attributes are. For Blue Mouhtain orbs. For Morrisonite, orbs and streamers. For Linda Marie I needed to some research. I started with two cabs I already made. The one on the right was made some time ago and I believe the slab was expensive. I sold it and picked up a cheap slab from blairrocks and made the one on the left. Next step was to do a picture search an LM cabs. Kind of obvious but the most desirable attribute is plumes. I'll mark up some preforms today and trim them tomorrow when some other material is arriving and post pictures of the preforms.

Can't wait to see how those turn out. Liking the details in those. Do the plume areas undercut much with this material?

Stuff reminds me of the old leathers ranch plume.

Lesson learned; a rock is going to do what a rock is going to do. The pear cut find and now I need to pick a side. The first triangle fractured through both drawn shapes. I redrew the largest piece and it fractured again. I'll put the freeform scraps away and work on the pear.

I have the trim saw on the right arbor, so I worked through 280 soft on the left. 80 grit is worn so I thought it would be gentler than my aggressive 80 on the right and the material is relatively soft. Picture is wet off the wheels.
