Howdy fellow rock people! Well a few weeks ago I finally finished my first set of cabs on my homebrew dual wheel slant cabber. I practiced with a few handful of rocks/preforms trying to figure out how each grit lap behaved on different materials but this is the first few I took all the way to polish. I've learned a ton on this forum and y'all have set the bar very high with the awesome cabs always getting posted on here. These are my first meager offerings lol. Looking forward to any advice or opinions! This first one is a Moroccan Agates: Another Moroccan: I really like the pattern on this one Similar pattern to the above Moroccan but experimented with a different shape and much higher dome: Still has a bit of cerium oxide left in some of the pits on the upper left, thinking sonication might help? This is 2 and 3 showing the difference in dome height I tired: Showing the tapered dome on 3, this started with a miscut preform and I just went with it lol: The last one (4) is this Brazilian agate, I tried keeping the "rine" on it experimenting with sort of a live edge. It ended up making a really cool orb/cloud effect around the outside: Thanks for looking and have a great day everyone!!

Damn! You're a quick learn! I like everything I see. Thanks for the great pics. The difference in dome heights are pretty big. Great job! You chose some beautiful material and composed it really well.

Congrats on coming out of the gate running! I think they look great for your first cabs! I really like the Moroccan Agates...but that Brazilian takes the cake! Fantastic choice on leaving the edge on that one. That one's my favorite for sure out of this batch!

Wow! Fantasic job for your first cabs! Congrats on your success. Pretty soon you'll be entering the cab contest and I'm looking forward to it! ETA: Yes, you can throw that stone in an ultrasonic to get the polish out of the pits.

Thank you all for the very kind words!!!
I've definitely been really enjoying getting deeper into lapidary. Making cabs and zoning out on the laps is a great reprieve from the busy days at work lol. It's quite an amazing creative and artistic outlet!

Better than my first cabs which had a big-ole-flat spot on the top. They're not perfect but it's clear that you've got the right idea. I'll let you get a little more practice in before offering any advice, since it looks like you're on the right path already. Thanks for sharing. That Brazilian agate is sweeeet by the way
