Beautiful! I love them all, but the 3rd is my favorite. Now that you are wrapping, has that changed how you cab?

I wasn't supposed to send you any material that nice! Just joking. I am happy you are getting good cabs from some of the material so maybe you wiil do more wraps for me in the future. Next time I will send you double-extra-hard silver wire to test your strength and stamina. The Ochoco agate is not as in-your-face as the others, but you cut a nice cab from a really small slablet. The Condor agate cab shows how good that material can be. I bought quite a bit of it, and I don't think I will be buying bulk rough again unless the price comes down by at least half. 50% of the nodules are filled mostly with quartz. Another 40% have at least some quartz or have boring colors and poor banding -- like low grade Brazilian agates. But about 10% are gorgeous. In your cab, the little bit of blue of yellow makes all the difference, and that plumy burst provides contrast. Here's the rough nodule: One interesting and weird thing about Condor agates is how the color does not follow the bands. There's a fancy name for this which I don't remember. It's like the bands were created first, and then the entire nodule was stained with different colors. I can't think of any other banded agate where the colors change like that. I like the first two cabs, but the last two are the winners here. The color combination in the first Agua Nueva moss agate looks like it was picked by an artist. I'll give that one the silver medal. The last one takes the gold! (Unless it fails the drug test like the Russian figure skaters.) Once again, the color combination is great. It would be a nice cab without the marcasite, but that pushes it to the top of the podium stand.

Ochoco tube agate. Another one of the many famous agates dug right outside my home town. I’m pretty sure you can still dig it as well.

Wowza! Those look amazing! (As usual for your cabs lol)
I really like the Condor agate, the mix of colors is really unique and contrast nicely. Both the Agua Nueva agates are really nice too, the last one is especially exquisite!

I wandered yonder and pondered, and was fonder for your Condor! (But they're all great.)

I think you're right since I got mine in a box of mixed Oregon agates -- all stuff the guy who sold them to me has dug in the past few years. So if it's off limits, it hasn't been for long.

Beautiful! I love them all, but the 3rd is my favorite. Now that you are wrapping, has that changed how you cab? Thanks Tela! Interesting question! It hasn't changed how I choose the pattern of the cab. I'm still wanting to go after the best possible pattern that within a slab. It has however made me more conscientious with regards to the technical aspects. I pay attention to how thick my girdle is. I know if I want to do a border wrap, I want it around 3mm. However, if I know I'm going to do a groove wrap, I want that girdle slightly thicker. If I try it with a 3mm girdle, it's prone to chipping the cab. Thicker = more stable around the groove that's been cut. I will say (kind of opposing what I first said) I have chosen a pattern on a cab that leaves a "blah" spot up around where the bail would go. This enabled me to put some "bling" on the front of the cab without impeding any pattern in the stone... I wasn't supposed to send you any material that nice! Just joking. I tried to pick a shape that would get the best of the pattern that was there. I was worried that white area was going to undercut. And even though it was softer than the other area, it didn't undercut. I do like the way the purple in the Agua Nueva is more of a muted tone versus the bright "in your face" colors found in other stones. For me, the Condor takes the silver...but the last Agua Nueva scored a perfect 10...and walked away with the gold! Fantastic, Jason! Hard to pick a favorite, great shine on them all... Thank you my friend! I really did like every one of these...but I really do like that last Agua Nueva the best. Ochoco tube agate. Another one of the many famous agates dug right outside my home town. I’m pretty sure you can still dig it as well. I almost tagged you in this one...but I figured you'd see "Ochoco" and stop right in! LOL This material really is amazing. I was looking online at pics after I finished this one...a lot of great pieces out there! Wowza! Those look amazing! (As usual for your cabs lol) I really like the Condor agate, the mix of colors is really unique and contrast nicely. Both the Agua Nueva agates are really nice too, the last one is especially exquisite! Thank you so much! That Condor turned out even better than I thought it was going to. I was telling Jonathan it was a relatively "fast" polish on that one. It cooperated very well! LOL I wandered yonder and pondered, and was fonder for your Condor! (But they're all great.) Thanks Gary! Good one! LOL - When it comes to the shape on the Condor, I can either take a straight edge, or "inside swoop" the right side. I chose to leave this one a straight edge...and I'm glad I did.
