Those are some nice cabs. 3-5 are my favorites. The orbs appear to be floating.

Those are really cool! Love playing around with cutting orientation to see new patterns and such! Material and craftsmanship are both top notch!

I think they look great and hope you play around with this idea some more. It seems like you may need just the right amount of crazy in that lace to get the best effects.
This same technique would be interesting to see applied to other banded materials as well. I was trying to think if I had seen anyone do this to a waterline agate (which may mimic the pattern of Bat Cave) or even a larger Brazilian or Bot. I came up with a blank on whether I’ve seen that or not but I frequently draw a blank when my memory is concerned so there very well may be many examples already.

I love these! Orbs rule and I prefer this orientation over the lace pattern every single time!

Nice job jasoninsd! Those look super shiny. Crazy lace is one of my favorites to cab, especially the old stock pieces.

Super cool, love the orbs and botryoidal stuff! I like to experiment with cuts like that as well, and not sure if it applies to what you're doing, but aside from thickness, I think some of it is luck LOL..like a degree or two difference in angle will dictate whether your swear words are awe based or disappointment based Love these cabs, great work as always!

Those are some nice cabs. 3-5 are my favorites. The orbs appear to be floating. Thanks Beth! When I initially ground those last three, I wasn't sure I was going to like the final piece as much as I do now! Thanks Greig! Those are really cool! Love playing around with cutting orientation to see new patterns and such! Material and craftsmanship are both top notch! Thank you so much! I was really worried I was going to waste the agate...but I think it "seams" to have worked out! (See what I did there! LOL) I think they look great and hope you play around with this idea some more. Thanks Brian! I think anytime I have a seam agate, I'm going to have to really look closely at the piece to see if this can be done again. I know Jonathan has a fair amount of this material, so I'm hoping he gives it a try as I'd like to see his results. I've tried doing it with Silver Lace Onyx in the past. I cut the angle just skewed enough to "stretch" the banding layers in it. It made for an interesting effect. There were no dendrites in the piece I tried, so I didn't feel like I was wasting the piece... I only recently have noticed a few of these posted. I really love the effect! Sweet cabs! Thanks Tela! I think I first saw cutting a seam agate like this in someone's Frog Skin Jasper thread. What an awesome experiment with amazing results! Thanks Nate! In retrospect, I'm glad I tried to do this. I still think better results could happen with a thicker cut slab... I love these! Orbs rule and I prefer this orientation over the lace pattern every single time! Thanks Robin! I thought I was going to get a few more orbs out of that fourth one...but I didn't want to be TOO greedy! LOL Nice job jasoninsd ! Those look super shiny. Crazy lace is one of my favorites to cab, especially the old stock pieces. Thanks Perk! I really do have a soft spot for any of the Crazy Lace's. There's just something cool about a fortification pattern...even though there's very little in these. Thank you so much! I absolutely love that last piece! I had to make sure I didn't grind too deeply into that botryoidal area. I saw it emerging, and just knew I was going to have to take some macros of that one! LOL 100% luck on these cuts! You're right about the angles. You can see on that first one how the angle was off by just a few degrees as the "circular patterns" aren't centered on the cab.

When I first read your title I immediately thought ... oh crap that could produce orbs! Beautiful and cutting edge work Jason! No pun intended Thanks Tommy! It'll be fun to try this again the next time I have a seam agate. It's fun looking at the material and seeing if I can determine if it's worth the risk. I am totally convinced that cuts have to be made a hair thicker and domes should be as high as possible on these types of seam agates... This is some really beautiful material and captures colors and patterns that I really enjoy. Keep posting material like this for great eye candy. Thanks Victor! Thankfully one can't get cavities from the amount of eye candy indulged in on this forum...your posts would be seriously to blame if that were the case!

Fantastic. Thanks for the close-ups. Thanks Tim! Yeah...those macro-type shots kill me! It really is amazing how much is happening in a microcosm like that!
