What type of motors do the Thumlers use?

Class B, Motor Shaft Rotation CWSE, Max. Ambient Temp. 40 Degrees C, Duty Cycle Continuous, Motor Enclosure Design Open Air-Over, Motor Mounting Type Stud, Motor Mounting Position All Angle, Number of Shafts 1
Specs for motor #2

Motors that are designated air over are designed to run with direct air flow for cooling. You could install a fan, but that just adds complication and another failure point.

Sounds hokey but I could probably install a small fan blade on the shaft to blow air back over the motor. The shaft is plenty long for it

Don't even try to talk to Thumler about bad parts. They will not reply, or ever acknowledge that you emailed them. They have the worst customer service that I have seen in my entire life.

brybry, you said putting a fan blade on your motor shaft sounds hokey, well maybe it does "sound" hokey but I can tell you from experience it works quite well. I have three air over motors from about 1/100hp to 1/4hp fixed up this way right now and all of them heat real fast w/o the fan blade on them, and are quite cool to the touch with the fan blade on them.

My experience with them has been the opposite, but all my contact was by phone so maybe they are just old school. They are also in WA state where the current, um, situation has not been positive for any business the governor doesn't own stock in.

Awesome, I have a small desk fan blowing on the one running now and it's been cool enough to not trip the thermal shutdown.

They were just as bad there. The difference there is they HAD to answer the phone.

Mark K sounds like we must be talking to different people. That said, I quit using modern "factory" tumbler bases long ago from any manufacturer, in order to keep them relatively affordable they are all made from lightweight materials and not user friendly for the less mechanically inclined, and a huge PITA for those of us who have to try to keep them running for them. Most of the actions generally associated with maintenance of moving parts on machinery are exactly what one should not do with the basic style tumbler, it's spelled out multiple times in their instructions, yet every one I have ever attempted to resuscitate has been incorrectly maintained.

That's the problem I'm having now. I bought used except for the Rebel 17 and the HF tumbler. All the used ones have died and need to be completely rebuilt. Instead, I'm building from here on out.
