My fingernails were getting long, so I did a little dopless cabbing. (Edit to add -- to be clear, dopless cabbing is a great alternative to cutting your nails. The long nails themselves are not integral to my technique.) White spots / lines is cerium. I can never get that stuff out of pits / cracks without a fight. First up: St. Johns Flower Agate, compliments of Vince ( hummingbirdstones2 ) and Robin ( hummingbirdstones ). Thanks! 1. (This photo is sub-par / not in focus. The cab is not sub-par It's my favorite of the batch. I will take a better photo.) 2. 3. Next up is Original Owyhee Picture Jasper, a.k.a. Owyhee "Gem", a.k.a. "the good stuff" -- compliments of rockjunquie . Thanks, Tela! 4. 5. 6. Moss Agate from Mexico. Not sure why I cabbed this. It was one of those slabs with good looking moss, but nothing else interesting going on. This is my least favorite of the batch. 7. Amethyst Sage Agate. I never get tired on this stuff. 8. Imperial Jasper from Mexico (Cab not in focus, but the chandelier is. I will fix and repost.)

Beautiful cabs, holajonathan ! That first Flower Agate turned out awesome, even if you had to recut it a few times. Love that Amy Sage, too!

I like them all! The flower agate takes the cake, but the imperial is sweet, too... oh, and the Owyhee. You did them all proud. I especially love the shape on the first one. Don't think I have seen that before.

Don't think I have seen that before. Too bad the first one had to break a couple times before I could come up with a shape like that. I'm sure you've had them break or fractures appear, and after you reshape, you discover that the new shape is way better than your original idea.

Each one of those St. Johns is exquisite! As others have stated, that first shape was a very serendipitous occurrence! I love that shape! Don't be surprised to see a few more cabs shaped like that here in the future! Thanks for posting pics of the Original Owyhee Picture Jasper. I think you sent me a small slab of that...and I had one already from somewhere (probably Tommy at some point). I never knew what it was. I really like that second cab of these two. I see what you're saying about the Mexican Moss...but it's a Moss Agate...so it's got to be a little better than "ok". Both the Amethyst Sage and the Imperial Jasper are polished to an amazing degree! Once again, your cabs are amazingly well done...and such a pleasure to see! I'm glad you got some time on the wheels!

I probably sent you a small piece or the Original Owyhee (since all I have are small pieces). It's one of those materials where you could just about drop a template on it at random and whatever you marked would turn out good. Some pieces take a great shine, and others not quite as great. My two cabs are from the same slab, and the smaller one (the shield) polished better than the tear drop.

You son of a gun!!! Those are great. Really digging the shape of that first cab. And while you're at it, how about finding a new deposit of Owyhee Gem picture jasper? A few dump trunk loads of that and you'll be in a new house before you even discovery the Undisputed King of Plumes. You would also earn a second title: The Crown Prince of Owyhee Gem.

Sometimes you run across a 55 gallon drum... Life can be so unfair.

(Typed this out earlier and forgot to hit "create post") Thanks. I try extra hard when I got the material from someone on RTH since I don't want them to think they wasted their slabs or rough by sending it to me. Tela sent me a couple of very nice slabs quite a while ago, but I was scared of ruining them, so they are just now getting worked into the rotation.

Tela sent me some slabbettes quite a long time ago. She labeled a piece of Rhodochrosite with: "Save until you have more experience"...I'm not sure when the time will be right, but I'm still waiting to work that piece! LOL
