Good looking pieces.
I remember Paul Wofford, he had the Rock Shop about a mile or so west of town off hwy 90. He took us out two or 3 times, not sure which Ranchs. He also took us down to Lajitas when they were building Mischer's development there. We stopped at the old Trading Post and then drove in a ways and hiked into the hills below the Mesa. It was pretty good collecting. Wood, Agate and Geodes. That would have been about 1978 or 1979.

HankRocks, I know Bishop was one ranch we visited several times and then went south to another ranch and exited on the road south of the Woodward Ranch near a cattle loading pen. Paul had keys for locked gates on several ranch roads on the exit route but would not let us hunt. On one of the stops near the Alpine road the ground was covered with the black plume but Paul said something like he would lose the gate key if he let anyone collect. We obviously collected and visited the same places in the 60's and 70's.

It boggles my mind to think how much premium agate is still laying around on the ground on various ranches in the big Bend area. Especially since a lot of the places have never allowed collecting. Heck the area on Singleton Ranch I walked too away from everyone on top of what Teri called Telephone(telegraph?) Hill and started finding larger unbroken/unchipped biscuits with lots of bytroidal showing that I never got a chance to get back to. arrrrgggghhhh!!!! Oh well, That's life, doors open and door close!! The piece I cut and posted a while back was from that area; IMG_3920 by Findrocks, on Flickr
