Okay, so my wife actually found this mixed into a bag of landscape stones purchased from Home Depot a couple of years ago. It was the only one of it's kind among five bags. We were tempted to go back and buy more bags, but we decided that was kinda nuts and didn't guarantee success. The stone itself is about 2" x 1-1/2" x 1" and the crystal range from ~1/8" to 1/4".
Anyway, I've thought for some time that the black inclusions are tourmaline. Lately, my wife has become convinced that it might be hornblende, instead. I'm not convinced, as I've found far more references and images of tourmaline in quartz than hornblende. What do you all think?

Schorl tourmaline. I’ve seen many similar pieces, even with the start and stop growth. Pretty cool.

Don't know about hornblende but I'd lay money on it being tourmaline. It has the rod shape like tourmaline would have.

I agree with everyone above, it is tourmaline for sure not Hornblend I had a chunk like that in my Geology lab test collection when I taught many years ago. Nice find not all that rare but good thing you did not buy more bags.
