Killer cabs, Jason! The first one is amazing, but the Agua nueva kicks it. Love the cut. I think you did a great job!

Waaaaah! It was haaaard. Must not have been too hard if you maintained that angle and girdle line around a curved surface. Helluva good job!
On straight sides the flat lap might be easier, but the curved surface would be harder for me. I need to see the contact point and angle of the stone to attempt anything like that. There's a little more freedom in the way I can move my hands and arms around the wheels, too. Everyone's techniques are different, though.
Now that you've done that "experiment" you could do another one like that anytime. Making straight girdles and variable angles all come together like you did on that cab is maybe the most difficult thing to do on a cab. That one's impressive.

Beauties! Love the Agua Nuevas and the Obsidians. You knocked it out of the park with that faceted Agua Nueva!

The obsidian is my favorite I think! Those are great! My club is actually planning a club dig at the China Hollow mine that those Biggs opal-jasper cabs came from. I'm a little more convinced to go there now!

Wonderful work, Jason! Closing the show with your obsidian was perfect — my favorite.

Thanks Vince! That means a lot! I see where you're coming from on seeing the contact point! This may have been actually more difficult to shape on the flat lap due to not being able to see the surface contact. I could always shape it on the 80 wheel, then move over to the flat lap for the 220-280 stage, then back over to the wheels to finish it up. However, my flat lap is setup as my 14k buffing station...and I'd have to go "old school" to switch out the disks. After being on the wheels for a couple months now, I can't stand the thought of having to switch out the disks on the flat lap! LOL The top is "off-center" by about 0.25mm. The right side should have been beveled just a miniscule amount more...like so small you really have to be looking for it to see that it's off. However, next time I might draw the top rectangle onto the top of the stone and use it like I would the girdle line... It was definitely a fun challenge...and one I will do again...just not every time! LOL Beauties! Love the Agua Nuevas and the Obsidians. You knocked it out of the park with that faceted Agua Nueva! Thank you so much Robin! I had to sneak that Obsidian in somewhere! LOL - It's probably the best cut I made on any of the slabs as the colors really come out with a straight on look at the stone. The obsidian is my favorite I think! Those are great! My club is actually planning a club dig at the China Hollow mine that those Biggs opal-jasper cabs came from. I'm a little more convinced to go there now! Thanks Perk! It's hard not to fall in love with that Obsidian! LOL You are in for a REAL treat if you can find some of this material when/if you go out there! I would definitely be putting my name on the attendees list of I had the chance to go like you! Wonderful work, Jason! Closing the show with your obsidian was perfect — my favorite. Thanks Gary! I should have put a "drumroll" gif right before the Obsidian! LOL Good job on all of those. Thanks Ali! I will admit every single one of these was fun to do. Sometimes, there's cabs that aren't as good as you're hoping, and they become "tedious" (in a sense) to finish. However, I enjoyed seeing what each of these was becoming as the process went on!

Great work on all the cabs with # 2 and # !0 being being my favorite beauties. Thanks Victor! Any of the Mexican Royal Velvet will always be at the top of my favorites! LOL If I can do the Tree of Life wrap correctly on that 2nd cab, I think the colors and patterning in that stone would provide an awesome backdrop for the tree!

Nice stuff! It's makes me happy to see you making so many great cabs out of the material I traded you.
The faceted one is probably my favorite. It's nice material, but the unique shape is what makes it special.
The Biggs China Hollow jasper rarely looks much like classic Biggs jasper. But it usually has a higher silica content than classic Biggs, so it polishes really well, as you discovered. It's almost like there's some opal mixed in with the brown jasper. As far as brown swirly cabs go, I bet that one's an eye-catcher in person, if for no other reason that the superior polish.

That first Biggs is the other cab I could get from that opal section...neighbor to that "sick" druzy one I did a couple weeks ago. I showed that second one to my wife and told her my plans for it. She agreed it would make a great backdrop for a Tree of Life wrap... I really had no intention of making that "faceted" cab...until I sat down at the wheels...I'm glad I got a wild hair though! LOL

I guess I didn't consider it as such...since the perimeter of the shape came from a stencil...but upward from the edge, I guess it kinda was! LOL
