I'm trying to make a matching set of earrings and a necklace for my wife. I started on the hard part. 10 mm rounds. They're more like 10 mm sorta rounds. Roughed out on the tile saw. Set in some premade silver stud cups from Rio Grande. I'm still deciding on the shape for the necklace. I'm leaning towards a skinny teardrop shape with a pinch bail and chain also from Rio Grande. It'll be from one of these slabs. Thanks for taking a look.

Way to go Lunk! That's smaller than anything I've tried yet! That's almost "scary" small! My vote is for the necklace cab to come from the slab on the top right corner. I think the "dots" in the slab would match the dots in the earrings...

I'm with jasoninsd on which slab to use. As for your circles, it doesn't look like they were hard.

Great job on the earrings! They look great. I'm gonna agree with Jason and Jonathan on the slab you should use for the pendant.

Better than I could do! I don't like to make small cabs, let alone round ones! You busted them out!
Your wife will be proud to wear the set when you're finished.

Agree re top right. Has a friendly face.
Don’t worry about the ears matching in every way, shape, and form. The earrings will have a head separating them. Looking good!

I don't even cab and I'm impressed with how you were able to make them so tiny!

Yes, circles are very hard. Especially to keep evenly round. There is a trick though. Dop the stone on a small flat head nail that will fit in a Dremel chuck. Then you spin the stone with the Dremel while cabbing it in the cabbing machine. The high speed rotation helps to make the cab perfectly round.

Those turned out very nice. I actually really enjoy doing small cabs. Good work.
Top right slab for necklace cab.

Dang lunker those turned out gorgeous. How did you attach the bail to the pendant? Beautiful work! Thanks! It's a pinch bail from Rio Grande. I drilled a hole with my Dremel and it has posts in the bail that line up and squeeze together.

Nice matching of earrings and pendant. I avoid circles because I don't find them interesting and I don't do a good job on circles and ovals. When I attempt them, I mark the bottom with ink and leave a uniform amount of material outside the lines. Subtracting is easier than adding. I can deal with symmetrical shapes because they only need to have the dome match left, right, top, bottom. A more skilled lapidarist can use their eyes to get a perfectly symmetrical dome on the circles and ovals.

Google star laps. These things make perfect small rounds. They are good for small ovals too.
