WOW, I'd be jumping up and down and screaming, which is what we do if we find a Lake Superior Agate that's bigger than an inch. That thing is awesome.

That's a darn small agate too. Only 2.3 ounces, 2 inch x 1 1/2 or so. I am totally amazed but it's got really cool banding. Did you notice the banding is different on the other side? It doesn't follow all the way through the rock.

I guess yer paying for uniqueness/rarity. Still much cheaper than a diamond (and more colorful, too)! Forget buying any more lottery tickets. Guess I'll be walking with my eyes focused on the ground from now on (not that I don't do that already!). What a find something like that would be!

Looks like Bikerrandy cleaned it up a little with his skil saw before chuckin' it in the vibe.
Don't let the 23 bids fool ya. There's only five people tried to bid on it so far. Looks like in South Dakota, it's . . . . . . . . . . priccccccccceless. Elsewhere, I dunno.

It's certainly a beautiful agate, but at almost $400 per ounce it is almost as expensive as gold. Way out of my league, but obviously some folks are willing to pony up that much cash for a great (but small) Fairburn. Wonder what they plan on doing with it?

I've been out there and talked Fairburns with locals, basically Shawn and a couple of his employees. Fairburns are a passion. They really are incredibly beautiful rocks. I suspect the premium on this one is because the pattern is so vivid and apparently unbroken on all faces. When they go out looking for these, they seriously are looking to find the one to retire on. These sell for outrageous amounts. This is why I was so excited when I found one, even though its quality is nothing compared with this one. As far as what they do with them, it appears to me that they just collect them. The preferred method is to leave them in their natural state.
