My wife has an idea and I'm not sure just how feasible it is. But, if it can be done, I know someone(s) on here will have a clue.
Okay, so she wants to cut a 3/4" to 1-1/2" hole in a tumbled slab-like or flat river stone, maybe between 1/2" to 3/4" thick. For another project, I've already played with a couple of tests used the grinding wheels recommended by jasoninsd to do some minor shaping and hollowing. But, this is quite a bit more than that.
Any ideas?

Well, this is an interesting thread!
I started cabbing a Teepee Canyon Agate yesterday and there's a quartz area in the middle of the cab that is shattered. It's a large cab. The shattered quartz looks like crap (to me). So I was trying to figure out how to drill out the area in order to make an opening in the cab...to kind of act like a frame for something.
Basically...exactly what you're talking about here - just slightly smaller! I haven't figured it out yet...so I'll be curious to know what anyone suggests...

Diamond core bits are the cheapest option.
