As a professional lapidary artist, I have bought, sold and utilized all sorts of equipment over the years. Many of the pieces of equipment have been from companies that are long out of business. This can be challenging due to lack of parts to refurbish or repair said equipment. Due to this problem, a current lapidary company that can easily be identified by the mint green and red color of all the equipment they produce has dominated the market. The reason for this thread is simply to inform folks of what they face if choosing to purchase from this business. First of all, the equipment is all manufactured in China and has no quality control. So, if you purchase a piece of equipment from them, there is a very good chance that it will arrive with problems and flaws straight out of the box. Then, when the low quality parts used to comprise the piece of equipment fail, replacement parts will not likely be available and an answer of when they will be available cannot be given. The customer service is occupied by foreign workers that speak poor broken English, they have no clue what the equipment actually does or what it is for. They are following a script on the computer screen. You will go back and forth in a ridiculous game trying to solve a simple problem that renders a very expensive piece of equipment into an oily, mint green paperweight.
This being said, you can easily save yourself a ton of disappointment and frustration by choosing American made older equipment that predates the Chinese junk invasion!
In the middle of the 1980s, the United States started a campaign to farm all of the manufacturing jobs out to third world countries to increase profits. In doing this, it created a steady decline of quality across the board. Fast forward to present day, people are buying poorly made junk that will need to be replaced every couple of years and happy doing so because they do not know better because this has become the standard. The state of the world’s problems are all stemming from this unfortunate chain of events. So, when you are making the choice to purchase a piece of equipment from this company remember, you are undermining the small little island that we are all stuck on! Don’t be afraid to purchase older equipment, it was made well, during a time when people took pride in their work. A time when, if the equipment broke or wore out, they could easily repair it and continue to use it instead if discarding it and purchasing a new one every couple of years.
