I opened one of the 12 pounders yesterday. The 12 pounders run coarse grit only. It was immediately apparent that something was wrong. There was no slurry only gray colored liquid. I dumped the barrel and rinsed the rocks. Even without grit, the newer rocks were somewhat rounded. That surprised me a little. What really surprised me was how shiny the rocks were. It’s almost as though they had been in pre-polish. Here are a couple photos. The rocks were photographed dry.

We've all been there... Just be glad you didn't forget water! That'd be a nasty cleanout. It's cool they got shiny... I wonder why.

perkins17That’s a real head scratcher. They ran for nine days. The last thing I would have expected was shiny rocks.

That was a definite surprise 🤣I’ve heard of people doing that intentionally if the rocks were very dirty, and maybe some rocks getting the sharp edges rounded off a little, but never any shine.

I did it on purpose with some AZ wood. Turned out really nice. Actually, I think I may have put them rough, in final polish. Not real sure now.

In mining: "Autogenous grinding is a process of grinding ore in a rotating cylinder, using large pieces of the same ore. Autogenous mills operate mechanically like ball mills; however, the media used for grinding differs. Simply put, in autogenous grinding, the media is also the material that is being ground, whereas in other milling methods steel or porcelain balls are used as media." www.azomining.com/Article.aspx?ArticleID=1083
