I spend some time looking for material on the internet and finding something great and cheap is what makes the hobby fun.

Two Clay Canyon variscite cabs completed. Cost of material less than a Big Mac. There's a huge price difference between cabbing material and a collector slab.

I've been looking for Misty Mountain jasper for some time and it is also called Polychrome jasper. I found a 9 pound piece on ebay and this was the listing picture: This is the actual piece which is 9 pounds of ugly. I had tried to make some cuts to get to the 'orby' part and my big saw crapped out. I noticed that Polychrome cabs had some value , so I took another look at the piece. This was an exploratory cut. I trimmed it down to this: With a little help with a hammer, I was able to fit it in my 10 inch saw and got two 1 1/2 inch thick slabs (one cut that fractured into two pieces. This is what I have to work with from the rock. The 'orby' area doesn't have enough values to bother with but the rest can make some decent cabs.
