Hi all I posted about polish in minute cracks. I applied some simple science to the rocks, it may have been a fluke so I will try again. Rocks going into Pre polish I put them in ice water before tumbling (close the cracks). Because I have 4 barrels the pre polish moving to polish I also did ths ice water thing. Last night when the polished stones came out of polish I rinsed them in hot water and tumbled them with borax in hot water. 5 hours later they came out with NO polish in minute cracks. Again I have only done 1 batch into pre polish and one batch in and out of polish this way. I will try it again with the pre polish batch going into polish. 🤞 Also going to try ingawh tip of making a gel out of the water. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Was it a fluke? I know rocks are hard and shouldn't be effected by heat and cold but it definitely is worth trying

The only thing I can think of that might be detrimental to the rocks is if there are internal or micro-fractures in the stones themselves. The change in temperature may cause those stones to crack or even break apart.
Cool experiment. Looking forward to hearing if it works again the next time you do it.

I have a water-pik that I will use to blast the polish out of the cracks. The key for me is keeping them wet until I use it on them. The other day it was warm, so I took a water hose with a nozzle and set it to JET and blasted. I got wet, but that worked well too.

That would be great if it is the ice water. I wouldn't think it would work unless you kept them iced while tumbling. If the cold closed the cracks they would open once they come back up to temp. Hopefully you can prove that my theory is wrong.
