Hello all
I tried using the search bar to ask but nothing came up. I would like to get Mohs Hardness test picks. Anyone know where I could purchase them or do you feel they are a waste of time and money?
Thank you in advance

most rock people get by with a pocket knife (Hardness 5.5) quartz (Hardness 7), pre 1982 copper penny (hardness 3.5), fingernail (hardness 2.5), Glass normally about 5.5 to 6 for the most part the pocket knife you have to have anyway, the fingernail comes preloaded with the body and you just have to learn what a quartz crystal is. The average person doing lapidary hangs around rocks in the 6-7 range mostly. Your mileage may vary.

I purchased one of these cheap kits on Amazon. There are certainly more expensive ones, but for less than $20, I thought it was worth it.
While likely not an exact science with the specimens they give you - it will put you in the Mohs range.
