...for me anyways. Just sharing some cabs I completed over the last few days. Hope you enjoy! First up are two Dino bone cabs. I had no options for shape on the one so just used what was there and the other had some soft spots that had to adjust from an oval shape. Next is rhodonite I think. Not best polish, not sure hoe good a polish can get with material. But still like it. This one was sold to me as Balmorhea blue agate from Balmorhea, Tx. This was pretty much the whole piece I got. Cool whatever it is. Shows more blue in pic than in person . This is graveyard point plume agate with little botdroyal area. Shape kinda got away from me on that side but didn't want the opening extending into the girdle so just left as is. This is unknown I collected. The white area is rough to the touch and appeared after soaking the cab in water a few days after polishing it. Dunno what this one is either. The pink areas look like feathers. Really like material but has copper colored dots throughout that don't polish so kinda screws with finish look. Like it tho. And the last one is Mexican flame agate I believe. I had a small endcut that I acquired long ago and just recently rediscovered. I got a slice out of the endcut and this one cab. I like the pinkish colors in it. Well that's all for now. Thanks for looking and hope you enjoyed!

Beautiful cabs! The agatized cell structure on the dino bone is excellent.
My favorite out of the whole bunch is the Balmorhea blue agate. It's yummy!

Way cool! You have some nice material! I think I like the first best. I love the shape and the big cells. BUT- they are ALL very nice.

I'd say it was rather productive!! Those are ALL gorgeous!! Both the Dino Bone pieces are beautiful - and I think that was a great "recovery" on that second one! That Balmorhea Blue Agate is absolutely breathtaking! I love the tones of blue in that one! Great shape and superb polish. WOWZA! Fantastic job on preserving that botryoidal pocket on that Graveyard Point! Definitely a stunner! The blurry (first) polka-dot feather piece is my second favorite to the Balmorhea! There's so much going on in this one. Love the shape and the capture on this one!

I just wish I had more of the Balmorhea blue agate! I bought an additional piece from the same place but it turned out unusable from hidden (poorly superglued) fractures. Guess I should be happy I got this one lol.

Thinking I should have kept more than 2 lbs of the 11 lb chunk I had. Lol . The feather one I'm pretty sure I got from a local rockshop out of their $1lb pile. Need to go back and look for more lol.

I love seeing your cabs! You really do an amazing job - and you pick amazing material! I love GYPP! I bet you end up getting more! LOL - I had picked up a BUNCH...which was nice as I was able to "cherry pick" the slabs for the best looking preforms...and not worry too much about waste. My favorite bin at The Rock Shed is their "miscellaneous" bin...theirs is $3 a pound...which isn't too bad. However, your $1 a pound find was WELL worth it! LOL

And I know I'm bad at Commenting regularly but I should tell you I have seen much of your work and you do amazing work as well! Not to mention your wire wrappings! I'm amazed just how fast you have progressed in the hobby. I l love The hunt for unique material to work. One of my favorite parts of the hobby for sure. If I had a place like the rockshed nearby I'd probably be broke by now! Tho I do need to make another trip to the one rockshop nearby and load up more from the dollar pile. Maybe take the whole pile and call it a day lol.

Oldschoolrocker, I think Bird of Paradise is the flame/plume name for the new picture.

Oldschoolrocker, I purchased several pounds of “Bird of Paradise” back in the 70’s from a shop in Alpine, Texas and have enclosed a picture. This material does come in several colors that look like plumage.

The white area is rough to the touch and appeared after soaking the cab in water a few days after polishing it. [image snipped] The australian sugary stuff has a tendency to have voids in it, but if it shows gloss I think it's good enough. That unknown materal though! What did it look like unsoaked? Looks like a huge amount of stibnite in some matrix.
