Does anyone have this problem? More importantly, does anyone know how to fix this? I'm getting ready to start pre-polish and I can see the silicon carbide sticking to some of the rocks. I've burnished twice with Borax and they are still there. They look like glitter in some spots. I think having any silicon carbide will interfere with polish?

Silicon carbide that glitters would be coarse grit probably from the first grind. Yes, this can be a problem if it decides to come out in the polish. This should not happen as much if the rocks are solid with no vugs. Ultrasonic is fastest way to get it out.

I also use a ultrasonic cleaner, it seems to work much better than soap and a toothbrush. I put in a little dish soap and run it for 5 minutes.

During tumbler clean outs, you never want your rocks to get dry until you have removed all of the grit. Carrying grit from one stage to the next will affect the polish.

If your rocks are porous enough to have grit embedded in them, then they are not ready to move on. You can try and ultrasonic cleaner, but I think the polish will be disappointing on this batch. I would take them back to course and run them for a few more weeks.
