I accidentally polished a tooth from a steamshovel in my Lot-O. It had become part of my media for about 6 months out of some gravel findings. Thought it was a meteorite or something the bounced over from Roswell till my brother pointed it out. He sees them break out of the mouth of rhe shovel from the steel they are riveted on or whatnot. Probably made of SiC itself. A beauty though.

Interesting that the teeth are something other than metal. I would never have considered the teeth on a mechanical shovel would be SiC.

I polished my finger tips on a flat lap.

I was watching one of those veterinarian shows last night and had kind of an interesting, albeit kinda disgusting thought: I wonder if anyone has tried to tumble or otherwise polish kidney or gall stones...?
Some of them can be quite large and intricate internally. They are generally made of calcium and sometimes magnesium. I would suspect that they are probably too fragile to survive in a tumbler. But, who knows?

I polish turds now and then. I've actually figured out how to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I had gall stones really bad a little over a year ago. I had to have emergency surgery. I had intended to tell them I wanted the stones to keep, but I was so out of it in pain - and on pain meds - I forgot to tell them! I was going to post them in the ID section of the forum! LOL

There was a thread that someone started awhile back that I think of from time to time. Someone was talking about tumbling their leftover bones from Thanksgiving dinner. I'm not sure they ever attempted it or not...they stopped updating the thread. LOL

If you count Coporolite I guess I have polished a few turds, right?
But, yeah, it's my understanding the business end of those land movers are made of Carbides at the tips because of course puny steel won't hold up to your average rock.

Not tumbled but I did polish a fresh water mussel she'll. Hand polished with wet sand paper then diamond paste to 80k. It's hard to photograph the mother of pearl but it looks pretty cool.

I have polished a couple of fragments from mammoth or mastodon teeth. They actually turned out pretty nice.
