Okay... The debate over a second tumbler here ended today! But, not in a way that I had imagined. Or, hoped.
Anyway, my better half and I stopped at Harbor Freight to look at their bench grinders. (I finally got tired of the time and poor results of hand-grinder tool sharpening.) At this HF, their 'clearance' section is close enough to the bench tools section that I noticed an employee placing a familiar-looking box on one of the 'clearance' shelves. A quick look showed it to, in fact, be a Chicago Electric Double Barrel tumbler. It was listed as "Open Box" and priced at an interestingly high $62.99, which is only a paltry $5 off of the normal price. To make a lonnnnng story short, I was able to talk the manager down to $49.99 INCLUDING a one-year extended warrantee (which is normally around $15). Pretty good, huh?
Of course, I did take the time to take it all of out the box, assemble the barrels, and plug it in before leaving the store.
I guess now that the sun has gone down and we've eaten dinner, I can justify time playing with rocks in the basement.

Did your wife disappear while you haggled with the store manager? That's what I do when my wife asks for a better price or goes for free stuff at the cash registrar (ie. if they ring/scan in the wrong price(for a $10 or less item), then the store is supposed to give you the item for free. I make myself scarce, but really like her results (and yours).

Quick Update: A couple of weeks ago, my great acquisition started making a truly horrendous noise upon restarting it after it sat idle for a few weeks. I couldn't find anything online about this exact symptom, so I took the top off of the motor/pulley compartment and discovered that the large pulley had warped! And, while it may not have directly been causing the extra noise, I'm sure that it wasn't healthy to the long-term life of the tumbler. Even though it was beyond Harbor Freight's 90-day return/exchange period, I had smartly purchased the extended warranty! So, I packed it all up and took it back to Harbor Freight. With no muss or fuss, they exchanged it for a new one. The only surprise was that I had to purchase another extended warranty, since the first warranty was attached to the serial number of my first double-barrel tumbler. Not a big deal, but it still was money that I hadn't expected to spend.
The replacement tumbler has now run for about a week. The only problem is, (like the first one), it has an issue with the adjustable plastic tab on the right side that keeps the cap end from coming into contact with the metal frame of the tumbler is wearing out. (See this post for information: Another issue with new tumbler ) I guess that this is a basic design flaw for all of them, huh? Anyway, the lithium grease worked well for the first one, so that's my interim solution for the second one.
