Scientists HATE thundereggs. No accounting for it, but there it is. They don't even mention them.
Paul mentioned "Iddings in 1888 observed a gradational physical occurrence at Obsidian Cliff in Yellow Stone National Park. He found a continuum of spherulites to lithophysae and another continuum of these isolated objects forming flow bands of "lithoidite" as he calls it. When he analyzed the specimens, the anhydrous glass, the obsidian was the same composition everywhere in this flow. The lithophysae and spherulites became more numerous toward one end of the flow and formed trains and finally thick bands of gray to purple flow bands with the obsidian in the minority as thin flow bands itself. When he analyzed the spherulites, lithophysae and the flow bands, they all had the same chemical make-up, only they were all crystalline.
