Oh, I can tell by the shape it's a saphire. Wow, would you wet it and photo again, maybe with backlight? I'm impressed, I love saphires.

You can see through it perfectly. theres a purple rectangel in the middle of it that is also transparent.

maybe you should hold it up to the light and take another pic. Would love to see what you see.

Doc facets- He is really talented when it comes to faceting- He did a sapphire for some one on the board (puppie maybe???) I think his priving is pretty reasonable too-

I got to see this beauty in person yesterday and Jody is gonna borrow a small mag light to put the stone on to take the pic. When that puppy is lit up from the underside it is freaking GORGEOUS! Really pretty blue with this just absolutely awesome purplish/pink perfect square spot suspended in the middle. I sure hope she can get it faceted to show off how gorgeous a stone it is and get some good pics for ya.

Cool! Jeez, I wouldn't know a saphire from a piece of landscaping gravel by the looks of the rough. Like you said, it's probably just the pic. Try center weighted focus or macro mode if you have it. Of course backlighting would be neat to see too. We are DEMANDING when it comes to pics aren't we guys? ;D

I've never seen a sapphire so I wouldn't know if I was hit by one. But I've seen rocks that look just like that one and know they are plain old rocks.
